Alan Chermak Obituary

Alan Jay Chermak, age 79, died Saturday, December 17, 2022 at his home in Manitowoc with his wife Carol by his side. Alan was born on March 30, 1943 in Manitowoc, son of the late Harry and Mabel (Peterson) Chermak. He graduated with the class of 1961 from Lincoln High School. He ran Track and Field, wrestled, and managed the high school football team. While at Lincoln High School he was known as Squirrel, nick-named by Tiny for his fun “squirrely personality”. After graduating, he attended Brown College in Minneapolis, MN and graduated with an associate degree in Business. On February 13, 1965 he married his high school sweetheart Carol Jirikowic in Neenah, WI. Together they celebrated 57 beautiful years together.

Alan (Al) worked mostly in transportation sales and after many years he retired from Wisconsin Nationwide. He was a member of the Yacht Club, the Two River’s Jaycees, Manitowoc Masonic Lodge, and served on the Cedar Lake Association board. He was also very active in his church, St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran, and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

Al enjoyed spending time with his family, boating and waterskiing at his cottage on Cedar Lake in Manitowoc County. He loved being a Packer fan and ticket season holder. He also attended races at Elkhart Lake, took fishing trips with family and friends, and enjoyed zipping around the yard on his Packer riding lawnmower. Al will always be remembered for his sense of humor, easy going demeanor, and kind patient heart. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Al is survived by his wife, Carol; his sister Janet Chermak, Manitowoc, WI; two daughters and sons-in-law: Cally and Christian  Lawler, Edina, MN; Cara and Tony Rathsack, Eden Prairie, MN; one son: Charles Chermak, Minneapolis, MN; and five grandchildren: Madeline, Mabel and Harrison Lawler and Jacob and Adele Rathsack; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: James and Bonnie Jirikowic, Donna Markowski, Barbara Jagemann – all Manitowoc, WI, Edward Jirikowic, Mandeville, LA, Judy and Ralph Wobschall, Boynton Beach, FL, Marlene and Joe Merrin, Plant City, FL, Vicki Jirikowic and Jeff Beckerly, Georgetown, CA, Marlene and Joe Merrin, Plant City, FL, Jeff Jirikowic and Nikki Koller, Appleton, WI, and John Stamm, Green Bay, and many nieces and nephews.
