Alan Julius Meyer, 91, of Valders passed away on July 30, 2022. He was being visited and comforted by family members at Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center at the time of his passing.
Alan was born July 8, 1931, son of the late Clarence and Ovila (Rautman) Meyer. He was a 1949 graduate of Valders High School and then furthered his education at Lawrence University and UW Manitowoc. Alan married Gladys Hackbarth on September 4, 1954 at Fountain Park Church of Sheboygan. She preceded him in death on February 18, 2017.
Alan worked at Kohler Company for 41 years, retiring as a Quality Assurance Supervisor in the Domestic and European Markets. He enjoyed his time gardening, hunting, and fishing. He was an avid conservationist, a founder and president of Pigeon Lake Sportsman’s Club. Alan was also a charter member, director, and president of Manitowoc County Lakes Association, a 60 year member of Manitowoc Co Fish and Game Association, as well as a contributor and supporter of the Friends of the Branch River. Alan played fast pitch softball in the county league for 15 plus years, and also managed fast and slow pitch teams in the area for many years.
Alan received many awards in his lifetime including County Lakes Stewardship Award which was sponsored by Pigeon Lake Sportsman Club and Pigeon Lake Association, County Lake Lifetime Membership Award, Branch River Champion Award, Wisconsin Lakes Stewardship Award, Manitowoc Co. Conservationists Stewardship Award, and Manitowoc Co. Fish and Game Lifetime Membership Award.
Alan is survived by his eight children: Douglas Meyer, Stillwater, MN, David (Laurel) Meyer, Manitowoc, Dianna (Robert) Niesen, Kiel, Dean (Jayne) Meyer, New Holstein, Donna DeRosa, Eau Claire, Doreen (Jon) LaMirande, New Richmond, Deborah Peterson, Reedsville, and Dawn (Donald) Smoot, Elkhart Lake; 21 grandchildren: Julie, Kenzie, Angela, Pamela, Joseph, Jeffery, Laura, Joshua, Jamie, Andrea, Kate, Sasha, Aric, Alicia, Antonio, Sara, Jacob, Ethan, Alayna, and Kayla; 17 great grandchildren; one brother-in-law: Larry (Diane) Hackbarth, Sheboygan Falls; and two sisters-in-law: Kathy Hackbarth, Brown Deer, and Sally Meyer, Newton. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Alan’s loved ones will deeply miss the head of their family. He will be remembered as a loving and caring Father and Grandfather.
Alan is preceded in death by his wife Gladys, son-in-law: Joseph Gries; granddaughter: Rachel Peterson; sisters: Joyce (Henry) Voight, Bernice (Elmwood) Schneider, Doris Meyer, and Margie (Ronald) Brueckman; brothers: Lloyd Meyer, Gene Meyer; his brother-in-law: Delmar Hackbarth; and sisters-in-law: Beatrice (Kenneth) Mattes, and Jeanette (Alton) Erickson.
Per Alan’s wishes private services will be held and he will be laid to rest at Knollwood Masoleum, Town of Kosuth.
