Arlene (Mouse) F. Naber, 87, of Plymouth passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 3, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family.
Arlene was born on July 2, 1936 in Milwaukee to the late Roy and Dorothy (Horton) Heidel. Her family moved to Wisconsin Dells in 1952. She attended Wisconsin Dells High School, where she met the “love of her life”, Bob. They both graduated in 1954. Arlene was a secretary for the Dells Lumbar Co., for a CPA, and worked for the State of Wisconsin in Madison. On July 20, 1957, Arlene was united in marriage to Bob Naber at St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church in Wisconsin Dells. They moved to the Sheboygan area in 1963. Arlene was associated with Edward Jones for two years, secretary at Lakeshore Technical College for 14 years and a secretary for the Sheboygan Falls School District for 10 years, retiring in 1995. She continued to “sub” in the classroom in surrounding school districts for many years after retirement.
Arlene loved children and her passion for swimming led her to teach hundreds of children how to swim at Lightfoot Elementary School and at the Sheboygan Falls Aquatic Center. She taught swimming lessons until she was 80 years old.
In 1986 she and Bob built their retirement home on Birch Point on Little Elkhart Lake, where she could swim every day in the summer, and sometimes as early as mother’s day. Arlene and Bob traveled a lot, their favorite vacationing spots were “The Great Barrier Reef” in Australia, Hawaii, and the many islands of the Caribbean, where they enjoyed snorkeling and swimming. They also spent the winter months in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Arlene was an active member of St. Thomas Aquinas, where she was a lay distributor and taught CCD for many years. She loved playing bridge, was in many marathons, and also a member of the Women’s Civic Society of Plymouth.
Arlene is survived by her daughters: Margo (Bill) Woelffer of Sheboygan and Mary Kirk of Plymouth; sons: Michael (special friend Mona) Naber of Sheboygan Falls and Mark (Diana) of Wellington, CO; her grandchildren were the apple of her eye and include: Tony (Heidi), Judith, Josh (Nidia), Nathan, Tim, Priscilla, David, Phillip (Sky), and AJ; and nine great-grandchildren. She is further survived by two sisters: Rose (Gene) Haux and Margie (Gary) Hamburg; one brother: Ken; brother-in-law: Bob Kane; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Arlene was preceded in death by her loving husband: Bob; her parents; sister and brother-in-law: Patty and Roger Corning; and sister-in-law: Mary Kane.
