Artemio “Art” Contreras Obituary

Artemio "Art" Contreras, 56, of Manitowoc,WI, was called home to be with the Lord on February 25th, 2024
after a one-and-a-half-year long battle with Stage IV colorectal cancer, surrounded by his family.

Art was born in Las Tortugas, Michoacán, Mexico on July 3rd, 1967 to Jesús Contreras-Ortiz and Salud
Orozco-Ibarra. He attended J.M. Morelos School in Michoacán, Mexico before immigrating to the United
States at the age of sixteen to work. Art became a citizen of the United States on March 7th, 2013.

Art enjoyed truck driving, which he was extremely passionate about, as well as spending time with his
beloved children, Alexa, Maya, Artemio, and Norberto. He enjoyed taking spontaneous road trips outside
of truck driving, cooking food in representation of his Mexican heritage, and conversing with just about
anyone he encountered.

Artemio was preceded in death by parents, Jesús Contreras-Ortiz and Salud Orozco-Ibarra and sister,
Nora Esmeralda Contreras and is survived by the mother of his children, Heidi Contreras, Manitowoc,
Wisconsin, children, Alexa Contreras (21), Maya Contreras (17), Artemio J. Contreras (15), Norberto
Contreras (15), siblings Olga Contreras (Victorino), Humberto Contreras, Silvina Contreras, Lucila
Álvarez Contreras (Constantino), Luis Garcia Contreras (Alicia), Francisco “Paco” Contreras, Onesimo
Contreras (Enriqueta), and other extended family members.

We want to extend a sincere appreciation to the organizations, clinicians, friends, and family who have
shown their support and love during this difficult time, especially the staff at Aurora Medical Center in
Two Rivers, Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, and The Vincentian Home in Pittsburgh. Your
compassion and kindness have been appreciated.

Mass will be held on Saturday, March 2nd, 2024 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo.

As an appreciation to the churches that provided unconditional love and support during Art’s battle with
cancer, any donations can be made in Art’s name to Renew Church in Two Rivers or St. Francis of Assisi
Parish in Manitowoc.
