Carol Mae Primm, aged 96, died peacefully February 4th, 2026 at Felician Village, with family and a close friend present. She was born September 11th, 1929 in Rock Elm township, Pierce County, Wisconsin to Paul and Alvina Feiler.
After graduating from Elmwood High School in 1946, she attended River Falls State College where she received her degree of Bachelor of Science in secondary education. She also studied guidance and theatre arts at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Columbia University, New York City. She studied English literature at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland and the University of London, England under the auspices of a Ford Foundation Fellowship in 1953-1954. She was awarded a Master’s Degree of Library Science at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1977.
During the years 1952-1972 she taught English at Wausau Senior High School, Lincoln High School, Manitowoc and Holy Family Academy at Silver Lake. From 1972-1991 she was the librarian of Washington Junior High School in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.
In 1956, Carol married John K. Primm, an electrical engineer. Together they had children Jane Carol and John Geoffrey.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Manitowoc, Masquers, PEO Sisterhood, AAUW and Beta Phi Mu, a library science honor society. She was also a charter member of Hatrack Storytellers, Manitowoc. Throughout her life she greatly enjoyed theatre, taking a number of acting roles during her high school, college and early teaching days. She continued her appreciation throughout life with her family, attending the Shakespeare Festival in Stratford, Canada, many live performances in Manitowoc and as an active supporter of The Capitol Civic Centre. She literally brought her love of theatre to the dining room table with family and friends’ readings of Shakespeare’s plays. She was singular in her positivity, graciousness and kindness.
Survivors include her daughter Jane C. Primm, M.D., and daughter-in-law Gail Hotohkee, of Port Townsend Washington; her son John G. Primm and daughter-in-law Patricia Hallinan, Ph.D. of Madison WI; one granddaughter Meghan Ruth Hallinan Primm and her husband Bennett A. Robinson of Foreston, MN. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband John K. Primm, and grandson, John Brendan Hallinan Primm, a brother and sister-in-law, Vernon and Margaret Feiler, another brother and sister-in-law, Arnold and Maxine Feiler and a third sister-in-law Dorthy (Toni) Feiler.
A private memorial service will be held as per Carol’s wishes. In lieu of flowers Carol would appreciate your support of Planned Parenthood.
