David Thomas Detrick, age 53, of Manitowoc, passed away on May 29, 2026 with family at his side – Died unexpectedly of long-lasting Chronic Illness.
David was born on February 7, 1973, in Manitowoc, son of Mary (Korinek) Orchekowski and the late Donald Detrick. On October 31, 2016, he married Shannon L. Urban, in Manitowoc.
David had great joy in art, music, quiet walks, and collecting rocks when his health permitted. He was a devoted lover of ferrets, leaving behind his beloved companions Foxy, Lily, and Nefler. David was known for “going down the rabbit hole,” from aliens, religion to the complexities of politics. In 2010, David found a vital sense of belonging within the recovery community. He became a familiar face at events, dedicating himself to service work and supporting others on their journeys. His family will proudly miss his sharp sense of humor and his uncanny to spark hilariously embarrassing conversations.
Survivors include his wife: Shannon; children: Taylor (Christian) Benzinger and Kevin (Amber) Detrick; stepchildren: Christian J. Urban and Caitlyn C. Hawkins; and his cherished granddaughters: Evelyn Benzinger, Ravin Hawkins, Levaea Hawkins, and Lillian Hawkins. He is further survived by his mother: Mary (Gary) Orchekowski; brother: John J. (Andrea) Jonas; sister: Sarah Parker; nephews: Madison Jonas, Finn Wyatt, Alex Parker, Tristian Parker; and a large extended family. David was preceded in death by the mother of his children: Roze Baxter; grandparents: Clarence and Alice Korinek; aunt: Carol Brey; uncle: Thomas Korinek; and niece: Alyssa Parker.
Per David’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. A celebration of David’s life will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on June 26, 2026 at Lincoln Park Field House, 1215 N 8th St., Manitowoc.
