Delores Christina (Gores) Brickner, formerly of Valders, passed away on Sunday, November 19 at St Mary’s Home at the Felician Village at the age of 94. Delores was born on January 10, 1929 to the late John and Odelia (Becker) Gores in Almena, WI. She graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1947. She married Leo Brickner on June 20, 1953 and they went on to have ten children. They lived in Almena, Stevens Point, Mishicot and Reedsville before settling into their longtime home in Valders.
After Leo passed in 1997, Delores was a dedicated volunteer, especially at St. Mary/St. Michael Parish in Clarks Mills, Valders Elementary School, Valders Senior Center Nutrition Site and Wisconsin Right to Life. She spent much of her free time visiting family throughout the Midwest, cheering for the Packers and Brewers and making her “famous” sugar cookies. She also loved playing cards, gardening, making too much food for family gatherings and dancing a polka or two with her loved ones. Above all, Delores’ favorite role was Grandma to her 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Our beloved matriarch was a woman of faith and family, and her commitment to the two, as well as her tenacity for silliness and love, will continue through her children, sons- and daughters-in-law and grandchildren.
She is survived by her children Lawrence (Bernie) Brickner of Sturgeon Bay; Debra (Richard) Reimer of Green Bay; Jerry (Kristine) Brickner of Manitowoc; John (Karen) Brickner of Birchwood; Beverly (Alan) Berg of Menomonee Falls; Jean (Jim) Barnes of Manitowoc; Mark (Jennifer) Brickner of Sturgeon Bay; Beth (Michael) Mulligan of Iron Mountain, MI; sons-in-law Ed Queen of Columbus, OH; and Eric (Kim) Christianson of Menomonee Falls. She is further survived by her grandchildren Peter (Angela) Brickner; Jessi (David) Brickner Sonson; Karyn (Matt) Bondroff; Andra (Brent) Barkey; John (Laura) Christianson; Jessica (Gary) Lardinois; John Reimer; Christina (Eric) Larsen; Peter (Stephanie) Brickner; Chad (Martha) Brickner; Tricia (Geof) Hagen; Alex (fiancé Allie) Brickner; Katrina Baxter; Amanda (Dan) Moore; Molly Barnes; Allison Barnes; Kaitlyn Brickner; Amber Brickner; Michael Pierce Mulligan; Cavan Mulligan; and step grandchildren Avery and Leslie Kivell; Konner Zayac and seventeen great-grandchildren. Delores is also survived by her brother Jerome Gores, formerly of Almena, sisters-in-law Jean Brickner and Mary Ann Gores, and nieces and nephews.
Delores is preceded in death by her husband Leo Brickner; daughters Mary Ostrom Queen and Barbara Christianson; granddaughter Haley Mulligan; parents John and Odelia Gores; mother and father in-law Bernard and Anna Brickner; brothers John and Ervin (Marian) Gores; in-laws Irene (Earl) Amundson, Clem (Ruby) Brickner, Clete (Betty) Brickner, Burton Brickner.
Relatives and friends may greet the family at the Felician Village Chapel on Saturday, November 25, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. A private family funeral mass will follow. Delores will be laid to rest at St Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Clarks Mills. The family would like to thank the staff of the Felician Village for caring for “Little Delores” in this final decade of her life.
