Donald Moss Obituary

Donald Moss, age 91, passed away at home on November 24, 2025, following a brief battle with cancer.

Don was born on September 14th, 1934 in Manitowoc, to the late Aaron and Mildred (Franz) Moss. Don received much of his elementary education at the one room Silver Creek School in the township of Manitowoc and  graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School in 1952. Don was employed at several local businesses before enlisting in the Army on January 5, 1955. He served with the 10th Infantry Division, 41st Engineer Battalion (combat) as a Supply Specialist, spending two years in Kitzingen, Germany before being honorably discharged in December of 1957. On April 11th, 1959 he married Josephine Steffen at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in School Hill, WI.

Don later owned and operated Don's Shell Service in Manitowoc before joining Kortas Automotive in 1966. He and his wife Jo purchased Kortas Automotive in 1979 and operated the business until his retirement in 1999. He was a lector and communion distributor at St. Andrews Catholic Church for many years, and was a current a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish. Don and his wife enjoyed spending time at their cottage on White Potato Lake in Oconto County after his retirement.

 

Survivors include his wife and best friend, Josephine; 3 sons, Brian (Debbie) Moss; Jon (Emmie) Moss; Kevin (Nancy) Moss; 3 daughters, Laura (Trevor) Knight; Barbara (Mark) Rusboldt; and Paula (Seth) Dramm. 12 grandchildren, Ian (Paige) Moss; Aaron (Erin) Moss; Jordan (partner, Erica Mortensen) Moss; Jacob (Jessica) Moss, Abigail Moss, and Sarah Moss; Travis (Susan) Knight, Ashley (Graham Ryan) Knight, and Tyler (Olivia) Knight; Haley Tadych; Madeline and Jacqueline Dramm. Step grandsons, Brad (Michelle) and Brandon (Lauren) Rusboldt. Great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Savannah and Colton Moss; Caleb and Cora Moss; Daschel Knight; Ava and Isla Knight-Ryan; Cassius Knight; Weston and Jack Rusboldt. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Michael (Marilyn) Steffen, Patricia Steffen, Lawrence Steffen, and Carol Heinzen. Nieces, nephews, and many cousins.

Don was preceded in death by his grandparents, Helen (Popp) and Ignatz Franz, Mary (Herzog) and John Moss. Parents Aaron and Mildred Moss. Mother and Father-in-law Katherine and Raymond Steffen, a sister-in-law Rosemary Steffen, brothers-in-law, Roman Heinzen, Donald Steffen, Deacon James Steffen, Lambert Steffen, and many aunts, uncles, and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 2 at St. Francis of Assisi parish, Grand Site (1416 Grand Ave) at 11:00 am with interment to follow at Calvary Mausoleum in Manitowoc. The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Francis of Assisi on 9:00 am from 11:00 am to the time of service.

Don’s family would like to thank the staff of Sharon Richardson Hospice for the care and concern they showed to Don in the last several weeks.
