Donald F. Schermetzler, Sr., age 94, a Manitowoc resident, passed away Friday evening, October 1, 2021 at Aurora Medical Center of Two Rivers.
Donald was born on October 10, 1926 in the Town of Kossuth, son of the late Jacob and Mary (Nikolai) Schermetzler. He served in the United States Army from 1945-1946 during WWII and was stationed in Japan. On June 4, 1949 he married the former Jeanette Meyer at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. She preceded him in death on December 12, 2013. Donald worked for many years at Kelvinator until his retirement in 1989. He was a former member of Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc, St. Mary’ Catholic Church, Clarks Mills and a current member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Manitowoc. Donald spent many years camping and traveling with family and friends.
Survivors include six sons and three daughters-in-law: John and Michele Schermetzler, Cleveland, WI, David and Renae Schermetzler, Cleveland, WI, Joe and Brenda Schermetzler, Two Rivers, Ken Schermetzler, Patrick Schermetzler, all of Manitowoc, Bill Schermetzler, Milwaukee; two daughters and one son-in-law: Barbara and John Gagnon, Antigo, and Cathy Schermetzler, Manitowoc; eight grandchildren: Jennifer Jo Pyles (Julie Kaczmarek), Milwaukee, Carrie (Greg) Lade, Sheboygan, Ted (Amanda) Schermetzler, Sheboygan, Tony Schermetzler (Elliot Scher), Los Angeles, Amanda Jo (Tyler) LeBombard, New Holstein, Krista (Mickey) Johnson, Mineral Point, Tim (Kaitlin) Schermetzler, Bellingham, WA, and Megan Gagnon, Antigo; six great grandchildren: Annika Taylor, Harrison Taylor, Lucas Schermetzler, Jacob Schermetzler, Jackson Schermetzler and Kaziah Johnson. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three sons: Donald Schermetzler, Jr., Steven Schermetzler, Thomas Schermetzler; and one daughter: Dorothy Pyles.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo (1121 N. 14th Street), Manitowoc, on Saturday, October 9, 2021. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Doug LeCaptain with burial at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Clarks Mills.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, Manitowoc, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
