Elsie "Jean" Peronto Obituary

Elsie Jeanne Peronto, age 88 of Manitowoc passed into eternal life on Thursday, February 2, 2023. She was more commonly known to all her family and friends as, Jean Peronto.

Jean was born on November 10, 1934, in Chicago, IL, daughter of the late Martin and Helena (Post) Burik. In her teen years she moved with her family to Friendship, WI. Jean graduated from the Adams- Friendship Union Free High School in May 1952. There class motto was “Life is what we make it.”

Jean made a wonderful life for herself. After high school she enrolled in a culinary school program in Madison, WI. During the summer she had a job working in the kitchen of Popp’s Resort in Wisconsin Dells. It was at this resort where she met and fell in love with Roland Peronto. Jean moved to Manitowoc, and she and Roland were married on May 28, 1955 at Redeemer Lutheran Church. They were married 63 years at the time of his death in 2018. Jean worked a variety of jobs including Mirro, Whitehouse Milk, Santas Best, George’s Bar and Felician Village.

Jean loved going on Bee’s Bus every week to play bingo at Oneida. She enjoyed getting together with her friends to play cards. Jean and her husband would play the pools at their favorite bars, where she was always incredibly lucky at winning. She was an avid sports fan and loved watching baseball and football. She knew more about sports than most men do.

Jeans superpower was cooking. There was not a meal she made or a dessert she baked that didn’t taste excellent. Although she wasn’t one that felt comfortable expressing words of love, she instead incorporated her feelings of love into the food she prepared. Her food made Holidays, Birthdays, Packer parties and other events so much more memorable. Jean was a strong willed and independent woman. She was loved and will be missed.

Jean is survived by five children: Linda (Daniel) Reimer, Laurie (Keith) Magyar, Laurence (Paola) Peronto, Lisa (Daniel) Whitney and Lorna (Jeffrey) Porodish, all of Manitowoc. She is further survived by 17 grandchildren: Tara (Howard) Belanger, Steven (Sarah) Reimer, Eric (Jaime) Reimer, Christopher (Jessica) Magyar, Andrew (Kimberly) Magyar, Logan (Nicholas) Magyar, Michael (Kristine) Peronto, Dennis Ford, Kevin (Heather) Ford, Sean (Chelsey) Peronto, Jade Whitney, Nicholas (Katie) Whitney, Danielle (Bryan) Gee, Rachel Porodish, Chris Porodish, Kyle Porodish, Ryan (Kristin) Porodish; 21 great grandchildren: Hayley, Amaya, Leo, Bella, Lily, Grace, Ruby Jeanne, Adelyn, Myles, Weston, Shea, Roman, Arwin, Viggo, Charles, William, Atlee, Anna, Keegan, Jasmine and Julienne; sister: Christina Hillsman, Fort Meyers, FL; two brothers: Richard Burik, Fort Meyers, FL and Martin (Janice) Burik, KS; brother-in-law: Raymond Peronto, Manitowoc, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends also survive.
