Fern Alexander Obituary

Fern D. Alexander, age 92, of Manitowoc passed away Friday, April 11, 2025 in Sheboygan with her family by her side.

Fern was born August 27, 1932 in Lynxville, WI, daughter of the late Frank and Beatrice (Hand) Benhart.

Fern enjoyed cooking and baking.  She was also an avid reader and enjoyed word puzzles.  Fern was a creative person, expressing herself through published poetry, painting, crocheting and quilting.  She made blankets for many of the children in the family as well as donating to the homeless shelters.  Fern was a mom to not only her own children but to many of her children’s friends. Her home was always open to them with food, family, and fun. 

Fern worked as a homemaker most of her life and also worked at Natural Ovens in Manitowoc. 

Survivors include her children:  Hilda Brisco; Virginia (Steven) Gregory; Ruby (Jack) Gunderson, Roy (Angela) Alexander; Leslie (Debbie) Alexander; Mark DeGroot; Terry (Cheryl) Alexander, daughter-in-law Margaret Arms; her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.  Survivors also include her sisters Lorraine Mezra of Boscabel, and Ila Swanson of Boscabel, and her brothers Henry Benhart of Iowa and George (Kaye) Benhart of Mississippi.

Fern was preceded in death by her parents Frank & Beatrice Benhart, one son Roland Arms, another infant son, Ralph Arms, step-son Tommy Alexander, and her sister Alberta Sparks.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life to honor Fern will be held on June 1st at the Silver Creek Fieldhouse at 3001 S. 10th Street in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.  Family and friends are welcome to attend from 12:00pm – 5:00pm and a lunch will be provided.  The gathering will be held in the lower level of the fieldhouse.   Fern touched so many lives with her kindness, laughter, and spirit. In keeping with her joyful nature, this gathering will be a time to reflect on beautiful memories and cherish the love she left behind.  Feel free to bring a story, a memory, or a photo to share.
