Francis Cooney Obituary

Francis P. Cooney, age 92 of Grafton and formerly of the Town of Mitchell, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Columbia St. Marys Hospital in Grafton.Francis was born on March 8, 1926 in Sheboygan County, a son to the late Edward and Anna (Beggan) Cooney. He attended Sunny Hill School and graduated from Plymouth High School. He continued his education and graduated from Marquette University. He served his country in the Army Air Corps. In September of 1954 he was united in marriage to Helen Deere followed by a second wife in 1982, Julie Cooney. Francis had been employed with the Wisconsin Gas Company in Field Engineering and Materials Management.Francis is survived by children: Patrick and Barbara Cooney, Detroit, Michigan, Michael Cooney, Chicago, Illinois, Colleen and Barry Bernstein, Mequon, Wisconsin and Timon and Mindy Cooney, Cedar Grove, Wisconsin; Eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by one son, Kelly Cooney, two wives, Helen Cooney and Julie Cooney and one sister, Rosie Devine.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 14, 11 AM at St. Michael Catholic Church in the Town of Mitchell with Rev. Thomas Lijewski as celebrant. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery with military rites to be accorded by the Ladwig-Zinkgraf American Legion Post 243. Family and friends may gather at the church, Cty Rd V and Scenic Drive on Saturday from 10 AM until the time of Mass at 11 AM.
