Obituary

Frieda Schneider Grotegut, 104, of Manitowoc and Mesa, AZ, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2023. Frieda was born to Phillip Sr. and Molly Schneider in the rural Fond du Lac area on February 24, 1919 to a family who immigrated from the Volga River area in Russia. She had a large family with 8 brothers and sisters. She attended schools in the Fond du Lac and Newton areas.

On June 5, 1937, she married Raymond Grotegut at St John-St Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cleveland, WI. He preceded her in death on June 20, 1998. The couple engaged in farming in the Newton area for 59 years before moving to Manitowoc in 1996. Upon Raymond’s passing, she joined her twin daughters and became a snowbird, splitting her time between Wisconsin and Arizona.

Frieda was a life-long active member of the St John-St Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church. She enjoyed dancing, reading, and maintaining her garden and flower beds. She was a soft-spoken woman that was a skilled cook and baker who took pride in providing sumptuous meals to family and friends. She met challenges and problems in life with the sure knowledge that the Lord would help her through troubled times. If the world was filled with Friedas, it would indeed be an amazing place.

Survivors include her twin daughters: Janelle Zimmermann of Manitowoc and Mesa, AZ and Jennifer Kieselhorst of Manitowoc and Mesa, AZ; two grandchildren: Dean (Tracy) Zimmermann of Shingle Springs, CA and Diane (Todd) Nelson of Lake Geneva, WI and Naples, FL.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; her parents: Phillip and Molly Schneider; her step-mother: Susan Dortman Schneider; sons-in-law: Don Zimmermann and Larry Kieselhorst; and her 3 brothers and five sisters: Jake (Molly) Schneider, Phillip Jr. (Alma-Ella) Schneider, Fred (Phyllis) Schneider, Alvina (Henry) Kaiser, Emma (Harold) Helmer, Molly (Ed) Glish, Lydia (Arno) Dehne, and Amelia Schneider. Also, her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Ernst (Mary) Grotegut; sisters and brothers-in-law: Linda (Roland) Freis, Alvin (Ella) Grotegut, Nelda (Edgar) Jacobi, Orma Grotegut and Violette (Urban) Jacoboski.
