Gary Moritz Obituary

During the early morning hours of March 15, 2023, Gary Moritz of Kimberly (and Manitowoc and Kiel) died six weeks shy of 80 years old after a stoic and brave 4.5 year battle with myelodysplastic syndrome.

Gary was born to Harriet and Manfred Moritz in 1943. He graduated from Kiel High School and received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1965. Gary joined the United States Army in 1965, served nearly two years on a military base in Italy, and completed his term of service with an honorable discharge in 1971. He received a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Louisiana State University in 1970 (or 1971) and worked in residential and commercial insurance inspections until he retired at the age of 74. Gary had two beloved daughters, Rebecca and Lindsey; two beloved grandchildren, Moritz and Odette; and a much beloved girlfriend of five years.

Gary was an avid sports fan throughout his life and could recite dates, players, statistics, and sports moments spanning decades with astounding accuracy. He rarely missed his daughters’ sporting events and loved his weekly updates about his grandchildren’s sporting endeavors. His love for cross-country and track was unparalleled. Gary had a great mind for numbers and puzzles and loved Sudoku, crosswords, and puzzles.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving girlfriend; his daughter, Rebecca; his daughter Lindsey, son-in-law Jesse, and grandchildren Mo and Etta; his brother Lee and sister-in-law Mari; his sister Lynn and brother-in-law Mike; and several nieces and nephews.
