Gary D. Truettner, age 77, of Manitowoc, WI, passed away on January 4, 2026. He was born on April 12, 1948, to Frederick and Loretta Truettner.
Gary graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School in 1966 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Agricultural Business from the University of Wisconsin–River Falls. His career began with Farm Credit Services, where he worked in both Wisconsin and Texas. He later shared his extensive knowledge of business as an instructor at Lowthian College and Brown Institute in Minneapolis, MN. Eventually, Gary returned home to Wisconsin, purchasing the family farm and beginning a rewarding chapter as a strawberry farmer — a role that connected him deeply to both the land and his heritage.
Gary had a lifelong love for the outdoors and enjoyed every type of hunting and fishing. He and his wife, Joan, also found joy in traveling the world together, exploring new places and cultures side by side. A true animal lover, Gary shared his home and heart with several beloved companions over the years, including his dogs Chessie and Minnie, and his treasured cat Whiskers.
Known for his steady presence, kindness, and generosity, Gary was a mentor to many. His closest bond was with his brother Don; the two were nearly inseparable, always working on projects together at the farm or around the home.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joan Truettner; his brothers Don (Martha) Truettner of Waukesha, WI, and Fred (Lonnie) Truettner of Sheboygan, WI; as well as numerous extended family members and friends who will miss his warmth, humor, and generous spirit.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Loretta Truettner; his sister, Sandra Wagner; and his brother, Keith Truettner.
Visitation will be held on January 30, 2026, from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Pfeffer Funeral Home, 928 South 14th Street, in Manitowoc. A private burial will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Gary’s name to Pheasants Forever, the Arbor Day Foundation, or the Lakeshore Humane Society — organizations that reflect his deep love for the outdoors, nature, and animals.
