George A. Sommer

George Albert Sommer, 96, of Plymouth passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2026 at his daughter’s home in Marshfield.

George was born on February 22, 1929 in Ontonagon, Michigan to Edward and Almeda (Soder) Sommer. He was a 1947 graduate of Ontonagon High School. George served his country in the United States Army from 1950-1952. On September 8, 1957, he married Shirley Kleinhans at Saron UCC in the town of Sheboygan Falls. She preceded him in death on August 23, 2001. Geroge was a foreman at the Kohler Company until his retirement.

George was a member of Saron UCC, where he served as a church trustee. He had a love for classic cars and was mechanically inclined and enjoyed taking things apart and putting them back together.

George is survived by his children: Christy (Paul) Erickson, Marshfield, and Jon (Judy) Sommer, Plymouth; grandchildren: Emily (Dan) Quinn, Matthew Erickson, Elizabeth (Dan) Schielke, and Rachel (Paul) Heideman; great-grandchildren: Jeffrey and Dylan Fincher, and Theo and Thomas Schielke; sister: Phyllis Bailey; and special friend: Marilyn Laack. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. George was preceded in death by his parents: Edward and Almeda Sommer; wife: Shirley Sommer; sister: Anita (Edward) Anderson, brother: Charles (Shirley) Sommer; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Edgar and Olga Kleinhans; and brothers-in-law: Jack Bailey, and Carlyle (Beverly) Kleinhans.

A funeral service to celebrate George’s life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 11:00 am at Saron UCC, W3830 County Road J, Sheboygan Falls, with Rev. Dan Krueger officiating. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at the church from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. George will be laid to rest at the church cemetery.
