Gerald J. Champeau

Gerald J. Champeau, age 84 of Manitowoc, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2026 at Felician Village in Manitowoc.

Gerald was born on June 10, 1941 at Bay Settlement, son of the late Clarence and Eunice (DeGroot) Champeau. He attended schools in Green Bay and graduated with the class of 1959 from Green Bay Premontre High School. Gerald furthered his education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison graduating with a BA in journalism in 1963. He served in the Army Reserves. On October 28, 1967, Gerald married the former Joanie Freiberg, in Manitowoc. Gerald was a member of the Manitowoc Yacht Club, past member of the Manitowoc Elks Club, Masquers and Heart-A-Rama. He was employed at Vollrath Company in Sheboygan as an advertising manager for many years until his retirement. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, golfing, collecting stamps, crossword puzzles, and watching and attending his grandson playing tennis.

He is survived by his wife: Joanie Champeau, Manitowoc; two children: Dr. Anne (Dr. David) Schachter, FL, Andrew Champeau and his significant other Kara, Madison; one grandson: Noah Schachter and his fiancée Belen, FL; cherished dog: Thelma; other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents: Clarence and Eunice Champeau; one brother: David Champeau.

A celebration of Gerald’s life will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2026 at the Manitowoc Yacht Club from 12 Noon until 4:00 p.m.
