Our beloved patriarch, Glee Allen Burt, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025, in Chicago, Illinois, at the age of 73. A man of immense humor, wisdom, and kindness, Glee was the heart of our family—steady, strong, and endlessly giving. His presence brought light and laughter to every room, and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Born on September 20, 1951, in Biloxi, Mississippi, to Bob A. Underwood and Patricia E. (Huff), Glee was raised in Arkansas, where his love for the outdoors blossomed. His familial roots and a childhood in Arkansas instilled a lifelong passion for fishing and hunting, and he never passed up a chance to swap stories with anyone willing to listen. His love for nature and Southern spirit defined much of who he was.
Glee enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served in the 8th Special Forces Group during the Vietnam War. In 1972, while stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, he met the love of his life, Elizabeth Lillian (O’Connor). They were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Clarks Mills, Wisconsin, and shared nearly fifty-two joyful years together. Their bond—rooted in a shared sense of adventure, humor, and love—served as an enduring example to all who knew them.
Throughout his life, Glee worked in several diverse and meaningful roles. He was a firefighter, a forestry dispatcher for the Arkansas Forestry Commission, and even a professional wrestler. No matter the job, he brought passion, care, and an unwavering commitment to his family.
Glee is celebrated by those who survive him, including his adoptive mother, Mary Burt; his aunt, Pat Underwood; his siblings Stacia Jones, Holly Hodges, Beth Johnson, and Justin Burt; his children Thomas Burt, Jennifer McLean, and Amanda Ellis; his ten grandchildren—Matthew Burt, Ashley Burt, Gabriel Young, Jessie O’Connor, Clayvius Baker, Christopher Burt, DesJarlais Baker, Laura Smith, Carrie Young, and Lillian Ellis; three great-grandsons; and a large extended family of cousins and countless friends who became family.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Elizabeth, his grandparents, biological parents, adoptive father Dr. Frederick N. Burt, and two grandsons, Josh O’Connor and Timothy Burt, along with aunts, uncles, and cousins whom he adored.
A Funeral Mass led by Father Josuva Arulanandu and Deacon Randy Jaeckels, assisting, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2025, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Clarks Mills, 15 County Rd. J, Reedsville, WI 54230. Visitation will begin inside the church at 10:00 a.m. All who knew and loved Glee are warmly invited to attend and help celebrate the remarkable legacy he leaves behind.
