On the morning of December 24th, heaven gained another angel. Glen Miller was full of energy, sass, kindness, and generosity. He always wore a smile and gave the very best hugs. We are sure that morning he was happily greeted in heaven by his beloved fiancée, Barbara Weir. His passing from Covid was very heartbreaking.
Glen was born in Neenah, Wisconsin on January 22, 1941, to the late Clarence and Ona Miller. After attending Neenah High School, he joined the Navy. He was proud and honored to be a Tin Can Sailor on the USS Perry Destroyer. His ship was assigned to protect the United States by patrolling Cuba during the Cuban Crisis. In 1962 he married Mae Woods of Florida. Glen and Mae were blessed with one son, Glen C. Miller Jr. Glen lived in Florida, then returned to Wisconsin living in Weyauwega and finally moved to Manitowoc. Glen was a truck driver the majority of his adult life, working for Central States Southwest Trucking.
Glen enjoyed so many interests, it’s hard to name them all. He loved being with his family as Dad, Grandpa, Grampie and Uncle for every celebration; he would always support and attend birthdays, holidays, graduations, weddings, concerts, plays, pageants, and recitals. He enjoyed his breakfast buddies, coffee buddies, bowling buddies, church family, garden buddy and community organizations. He loved to travel, was an excellent bowler, enjoyed fishing and scuba diving, bicycling and loved to use his tractor. He had many unique hobbies over the years, but recently had purchased bulls whom he enjoyed watching compete in rodeos.
Glen is survived by his son Glen Miller, Jr. (Michelle), granddaughters; Amber Miller (Erik), Stephany Miller and Mariah Miller. Also survived by special granddaughters Lyla Weir Spaulding (Michael), Alyssa Weir Nickel (Adam) and Sarah Pellerino. He was blessed to have 9 great grandchildren: Zack, Alanah, Maylinn, Zara, Lizzy, Zoey, Evelyn, Eisley and Finley. In addition, he is survived by his sister; Bonita Hill (Michael), sister in- laws: Chris Cofield (Larry), Dora Clark (Wayne) and Karen Miller. He is further survived by special nieces and nephews and many friends. Glen was preceded in death by his beloved fiancée Barbara Weir, his parents, Clarence and Ona Miller, brother, Ronald Miller, sister, Patricia Hildebrandt, sister-in-law Cam Miller, and brother-in-law, Jerry Hildebrandt.
A funeral celebration of Glen’s life will be held at Trinity Alliance Church of Manitowoc (3121 Nagle Ave) on Saturday May 14th. Visitation starting at 9:00 and service at 11:00 at the church. Military honors will be held immediately following services at the church.
Special thank you to the wonderful, kind and caring nurses of the ICU at Holy Family Hospital of Manitowoc. They gave his son and sister precious time to be with him.
