Glenn Pfeffer Obituary

Glenn E. Pfeffer, age 87, of Manitowoc, passed into the loving arms of his Savior Jesus Christ, under the care of Shady Lane Nursing Care Center and Home Care Health Services & Hospice staffs early Tuesday morning, April 7, 2026.

Glenn was born July 15, 1938, on the home farm in the Town of Franklin, “Taus”, the third child of Edgar and Mayme (Grall) Pfeffer. Growing up on the family farm, he attended local schools and in 1951 the family moved to Manitowoc. He graduated in 1956 from Manitowoc Lincoln High School. Following high school he attended the University of Wisconsin-Manitowoc and graduated from Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science in Milwaukee. On September 6, 1958, he married his high school sweetheart, the former Shelby J. Meyer in Manitowoc.

Glenn began his career in funeral service in Kenosha and in 1961 moved to Sister Bay working for Casperson Funeral Home followed by a two-year employment in Racine for Strouf Sheffield Funeral Home. In April of 1973, he and partners David Reinbold and John Senglaub purchased Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home in Manitowoc. The partners of Dave and Glenn welcomed Glenn’s son Kevin into their association in 1990 with the addition of Saur Funeral Home in Kellnersville and in 1998 entered into partnership with Mark Jens with the Jens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manitowoc. At the age of 65 in 2003 he entered retirement working part-time until his health diminished. He was proud of the fact that he was licensed to practice as a funeral director/embalmer by the State of WI for over 50 years. Glenn truly loved his funeral service career.

Glenn belonged to many volunteer organizations including the Manitowoc Lions Club where he served in various capacities. He was the oldest and longest serving member of the club since 1973. The Manitowoc Lions Club honored him with the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award for recognition of dedication and leadership. Glenn was a member of the Manitowoc Izaak Walton League and environmental group where he served as Treasurer for over 25 years and always was present at their corn stand at the Manitowoc County Fair. He received the Judge Tobin Award and the Rahr Diamond Award from the organization for his dedicated environmental leadership. Glenn served as member and president of the City of Manitowoc Municipal Tree Commission for many years. His memberships also included the Manitowoc Yacht Club, Manitowoc Knights of Columbus and St. Francis of Assisi Parish including his past membership of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Glenn’s greatest enjoyment came from the family property in the Town of Athelstaine and Wausaukee where he enjoyed a lifetime of special memories hunting partridge and deer and gathering and splitting wood. He always loved to stoke a wood fired stove and fireplace to a temperature beyond comfort. “Up North” as he called it was a refuge to him; he relaxed and recharged his internal batteries to take on the demands of his working career. In retirement, as his age and health allowed, he spent as much time as possible “Up North” at the camp.

His survivors include his wife: Shelby of Manitowoc; one son and daughter-in-law: Kevin (Lisa) Pfeffer of Manitowoc; one daughter and son-in-law: Brynn (Craig) Schander of Libertyville, IL; five grandchildren and their families of eight great grandchildren and one great granddaughter on the way: Ashley (Brian) Eick of Manitowoc and their children: Isabella, Grant and Cullen; Amy (Benjamin “Ben”) Edler of Manitowoc and their children: Brynn, Grace and Beauden “Beau”; Eric (Andrea) Fulkerson of Payette, ID and their future daughter: Sage; Kate (Dave) McCoy of Libertyville, IL and their children: Mason and Nina; Joanna Suhayda of  South Elgin, IL; one sister: Elaine Kupsh of Two Rivers; nieces, nephews, cousins and  many special friends survive.
