Harold John Trainor, a Manitowoc resident, passed away early Sunday morning, September 17th, surrounded by his loving family.
Harold was born on August 4, 1927, in Manitowoc, son of the late Michael and Lucy (Scherer) Trainor. He attended St. Paul Parochial Grade School and graduated from Lincoln High School, Class of 1946. Harold served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Crisis aboard the Block Island and Boganville aircraft carriers. On September 29, 1951, he married the former Gloria Ann Grenier at St. Luke Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Harold was employed at Manitowoc Public Utilities as a Plant Operator for over thirty years until his retirement in 1992. He was also a meticulous mason who took great pride in his work. Roncalli held a special place in his heart. He assisted Roncalli in transporting students to and from school for many years. He proudly accepted the distinguished Lasallian Award from Roncalli in 2010. Harold was a member of the St. Paul Adoration Society, Holy Name Society, St. Francis of Assisi Parish, drove for meals on wheels and was active for many years in local dartball leagues.
Harold had many interests. He loved to chop wood, stoke his wood stove, travel, and camp, especially with his family. In his “spare” time, he was a gardener extraordinaire.
Survivors include his wife Gloria Ann Trainor; three daughters and two sons-in-law: Mary and Paul Johnsrud, Barb Trainor, Gemma and Brian Ulness; two sons and daughters-in-law: Gregory and Coreen Trainor, Michael and Cindy Trainor; Grandchildren: Jacob (Jess) Johnnsrud, Samuel (Katie) Johnsrud, Joel (Nicole) Johnsrud, Marie (Isaac) Flynn Buggs, Joshua (Brianna) Trainor, Heidi (Derek) Pankratz, Jared (Emma) Trainor, Parker Ulness, Mariah Ulness, Matthew (Lauren) Trainor; Great-Grandchildren: Claire, Anna, Elizabeth, Juno, Jonah, Otto, Felix, Madison, Caleb, James, Simon, Rose, Adelaide, Violet and Sebastian; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Lorna Murphy and Norman Christoffel; Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends survive.
Harold was preceded in death by his daughter, Jean; Mom and Dad, Lucy and Michael Trainor; Mother-in-law and Father-in-law, Esther and Simon Grenier; Two sisters and three brothers-in-law: Janet and Paul Klackner, Rita and Gene Schmidt, Bob (Mickey) Murphy; One nephew, Michael Murphy and many other dear relatives and friends.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, September 28th at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand, 1416 Grand Avenue, Manitowoc. Father Matt Colle will be the celebrant. The family will greet relatives and friends from 4 p.m. until the time of mass at 5 p.m. A dinner for family and friends will follow. A private burial service will occur the next day at Calvary Cemetery. Military graveside services will be accorded by the American Legion Post #88.
