Hattie E. Schema, age 93, of St. Nazianz, passed away early Friday morning, August 12, 2022, at Holy Family Medical Center, Manitowoc.
The former Hattie Muehlbauer was born on November 28, 1928 in the township of Schleswig, daughter of the late Joseph and Hedwig (Meyer) Muehlbauer. She grew up in the town of Schleswig and attended SS Peter and Paul Catholic Grade School in Kiel. On June 5, 1948, Hattie was married to Norman F. Schema at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. He preceded her in death on September 6, 2009.
In the past, Hattie had worked at Kiel Woodenware and the Levernz Shoe Factory in Valders. She enjoyed sewing, canning and freezing, and learned how to drive a gravel truck and a tractor for the family business Schema Land and Gravel. She was a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church in St. Nazianz.
Survivors include her five children: Sandy (Paul) Woelfel, Chilton, Jerome Schema, Newton, Thomas (Nancy) Schema, Manitowoc, Edward (Fay) Schema, Elkhart Lake, and Jane (Mike) Mueller, Whitelaw; 12 grandchildren: Vickie Woelfel (special friend Joe Eis), Jackie Woelfel (Shawn Donnelly), Glenda Alvarez, Heather Schema, Lindsay (Scott) Fabry, Stacy (Chris) Ehlers, Ryan Schema, David Schema and his fiancé: Elisabeth Woods, Jennifer (Adam) Post, Amanda (Ryan) Staudinger, Kyle (Cassie) Mueller, and Lucas Mueller; 12 great-grandchildren: Michael, Ella, Clara, Blake, Paige, Aria, Luciana, Elizabeth, Morgan, Simon, Evan, Ethan, one sister: Cecelia Muehlbauer, California. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Norman, twin infant boys: Francis and Joseph Schema, one grandson: Thomas Stueber Jr., one daughter-in-law: Sandra Schema, one son-in-law: Thomas Stueber Sr., six brothers and five sisters: Frank (Agatha) Muehlbauer, Joseph (Gertrude) Muehlbauer, John (Rita) Muehlbauer, Norbert (Catherine) Muehlbauer, Wally Muehlbauer, Arnold Muehlbauer, Anita (Lambert) Schneider, Elvera (Ray Stemper) (Ervin Reseburg), Lana (Ervin) Reseburg, Leona (Nicholas) Junk, and infant sister Maria Muehlbauer; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Louis and Katherine Schema; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Aaron (Katherine) Schema, Evelyn (John) Ruppel, and Delores (Elton) Jelinek.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at St. Gregory Catholic Church, 212 Church St., St. Nazianz. The Rev. William Brunner will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial of her cremated remains at the St. Gregory Parish Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am.

The family would like to thank the paramedics and first responders, the staff at Holy Family Medical Center, and the staff of the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for their compassionate care. The family would also like to thank Mary, Gene, Sandy, Bette, and Fr. Bill at St. Gregory Parish for their generous support and prayers.
