Helga Elizabeth (Hartenberger) Salfer

Helga E. Salfer, 94 (six days shy of 95) passed away peacefully Monday August 25, 2025 at Manitowoc Health and Rehab Center surrounded by family.

Helga was born August 31,1930, in Milwaukee to Gotthard and Anna (Piendl) Salfer.  She graduated at Milwaukee's West Division High School in 1948. Helga then married Joseph Salfer on October 9, 1954. Helga worked at the Gas Company until the birth of her only child, Laura, and then spent her time as a homemaker.

Later in life Helga enjoyed sewing, catering at Jewish temples, bus trips to Casino's with her friends, and collecting daisies and mushrooms. Helga was known as the "Bingo Champ" at Manitowoc Health and Rehab Center in her last years. 

Helga is survived by her only child, Laura (Mike) Mohr; grandchildren: Amanda Caminata (Sam Gigure), Alyssa (Andy) Bibby, Nicholas (Jessica) Mohr, Amy (Pertti) Ponkka, Ashley Mohr (Hunter Weisensel), and Alexa Mohr; great grandchildren: Owyn and Lyla Bibby, Sophie Mohr, Maija Ponkka, and baby Weisensel. She was preceded in death by her parents Gotthard and Anna, husband Joe, brothers Kenny and Carl, and grandson-in-law Al Caminata.

Cremation has occurred at Klein and Stangel funeral home and a celebration of life will be held with immediate family.

Helga's family would like to thank a few special workers at Manitowoc Health and Rehab; nurses Taylor, Julia and Trish along with CNA's Debbie and Lauren.

Helga's last few years were made very special by her dear friends Joyce, Eileen, Gertie, and Pauline.
