James P. Johnson, age 84 of Manitowoc passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at Aurora medical Center of Manitowoc County.
James was born on September 20, 1939, in Independence, WI, son of the late Joseph and Frances (Wozney) Johnson. He grew up in Wisconsin and after graduating high school James entered the United States Air Force, serving from 1958 to 1962 in Greenland and Niagara Falls. James met his wife Connie O’ Hara while serving in Niagara Falls where they married on March 23, 1962, later moving to Wisconsin and settling in Manitowoc in 1979. She preceded him in death on May 24, 2021. He worked at Hamilton Industries for many years and was a former member of the Eagles Club of Two Rivers. James enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his daughter: Sheri (Bryan) Gagnon; two sons: Ray (Vicki) Johnson, and Mike (Kris) Johnson; daughter-in-law: Rika Johnson; six grandchildren: Maiko, Alex and Dustin Johnson, Andrew, Matthew and Amanda Johnson; four great grandchildren; one brother and two sisters-in-law: Ronald (Gloria) Johnson and Mary Wozney; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Dorothy (Duane) Hurt and Rita (Lynn) Schmidt; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends survive. He was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph and Frances Johnson; his wife: Connie Johnson; one son: Keith Johnson; an infant daughter: Laurie Ann Johnson; two brothers: Alfred (Al) Wozney and Marcus Johnson; and one nephew Jeff Wozney.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 17, 2023, at the Knollwood Mausoleum, 1500 Hwy 310, Manitowoc. Rev. Doug LeCaptain will officiate, with entombment to follow. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post #88. Family and friends may call at the Mausoleum on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of services at 11:00 am. James will be laid to rest with his wife at Knollwood Mausoleum.
