James Phillip Steuerwald

March 28, 1941 ~ January 21, 2017 (age 75) 75 Years Old

James Phillip Steuerwald, 75, of Plymouth, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, January 21, 2017. Jim was born on March 28, 1941, in Batavia, first born of nine children to Floyd and Loretta (Muhs) Steuerwald. He was active in baseball and basketball in high school and graduated from Random Lake in 1959. James became a follower of Christ at the age of 17 and after high school attended Bob Jones University, a Bible school in South Carolina. In 1966, he was drafted into the Army and served in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1968. Upon discharge from the army, James answered Gods call to His service and attended New Tribes Mission where he felt God leading him to teach the Bible in Papua New Guinea. While in New Guinea, he met a single missionary named Julaine Boye, who worked as a teacher of literacy in a nearby tribe; both had attended the same high school but had never met. They were married in August of 1974, had 3 children, and continued their work in New Guinea until 1984. Jim was married to Julaine until her death in March 2008. Then, in 2010, Jim married Yvonne (Jaeger) Monfre on the 7th of August. Jim was employed with Lakeland Sports, the West Bend Co., and the Thomas Co. until his retirement in 2008. Jim attended Faith Baptist Church in Plymouth. He enjoyed his opportunities to share and teach the Bible -whether through door-to-door or to the elderly in the nursing home. He also spent time weekly teaching the Bible in the Sheboygan County jail where he continued teaching throughout his battle with cancer. Jim especially enjoyed family activities which included family reunions, hunting with his brothers and sons, fishing with children and grandchildren, playing chess though he often took so long to move he forgot it was his turn, and attending Brewers games and sporting events of his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Jim will be remembered by those who knew him as a servant of God, a prayer warrior, and someone who was always willing to help others. Jim was known for his passion for sharing Jesus with anyone and everyone who crossed his path. If Jim were able, he would love to share these two verses with you: I Timothy 2:5 "There is one mediator between God and man, the Man, Christ Jesus." Romans 6:23 "the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life". Jim would encourage you that today is the perfect day to accept this gift! Jim is survived by his wife, Yvonne; his three children: Philip (Christine) Steuerwald of Warren, MI; Kyla (Keith) Stahley of Pembine, WI; Timothy Steuerwald of Watertown, WI; twelve grandchildren: Kaden, Keiton, Kedrick, Koralee, Jaden, Kody, Kinza, Krissie, Callum, Kylie, Kezia, and Kolt; four sisters and two brothers: Pat Chelmo of Wild Rose, WI, Mary (Dennis) Campbell of St. Cloud, MN, Virginia (Robert) Culver of Cascade, Thomas Steuerwald of Mt. Morris, IL, Jewel (Rick) Seifert of Wild Rose, WI, and John (Scarlette) Steuerwald of Whitewater, WI, and his sisters-in-law: Layna Steuerwald and Rosie Steuerwald both of Watertown, WI. He is further survived by nieces, nephews and many other family and friends. In addition to his parents, brother in law (Roland Boye), and his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Michael Steuerwald. A funeral service for James will be held 11 AM, Saturday, January 28 at the Faith Baptist Church in Plymouth with Pastor David Kimmel officiating. Burial will be in Zion United Methodist Cemetery in Batavia. Family and friends may gather at the church, 1223 Krumrey St. in Plymouth on Saturday from 9 AM until the time of service at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Jamess name. Jims family would like to express their deep appreciation and gratitude to the staff of Rocky Knoll, the Aurora At Home Hospice and Dr. Kumar and RN Debbie Grey for the care, concern and compassion they gave.
