Obituary

Jane Louise (Bolle) Rieck, age 74 of Manitowoc, WI, passed away on March 24, 2023, at her home after a 8-year battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Jane was born on October 7, 1948, to Dorothy (Feit) and Everett Bolle in Manitowoc, WI and grew up in Francis Creek, WI.

After Jane graduated from Mishicot High School in 1966, she went on to study Nursing and graduated from Milwaukee Technical College.  Jane worked as a Registered Nurse for over 40 years until her retirement from Holy Family Memorial in 2014.

She married Roger Rieck on August 5, 1972 at St. Anne’s Church in Francis Creek. They lived in Manitowoc throughout the duration of their 50 year marriage.  They had two children,  Meredith and Andrew. Jane was a member of St. Francis Assisi parish.

Jane was diagnosed with ALS in 2015 and her disease progressed over the following 8 years. Her worsening symptoms resulted in the loss of her voice and her independence, but not her sense of humor, stubbornness, and amazing capacity to care about everyone else over herself.  Jane was a woman of strength and faith. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  Jane loved golfing, gambling, and fishing (but she was much better at the first two).  She had a warm, beautiful smile that especially appeared on the golf course with her sisters or friends, when she got the slot machine bonus round, and when surrounded by her beloved family (the best and brightest smiles being for her grandchildren).

She is survived by her husband, Roger;  children, Meredith (Rey) and Andrew (Alison); grandson, Finley; sisters, Nancy (Joe), Susan (Terry), Debra (Dave), Terry, and Ellen; brothers, Lyle and Jeffery (Connie); Step-grandchildren, Harold (Ariana), Carmina, Yvonne (Pedro), Charlene, and Parker; as well as beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Jane’s family wishes to thank her home caregivers (Penny, Kim, Heidi, Sarah, Sara, Darci, Marianne, Christine) and Holy Family Memorial Home Care providers Rachel and Carol for the excellent care and companionship they provided during the heartbreaking journey that led to the final moments of Jane’s life.

The family would also like to express gratitude for the support of the ALS Association of Wisconsin, especially Diane Fergot and Angie Pereira.

If you would like to pay your respects, you are welcome to attend the memorial service being held in her honor at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 3, 2023 at Saint Francis of Assisi Grand Site, 1416 Grand Ave, Manitowoc with Rev. Doug LeCaptain officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 9:00 AM until the time of services at 11:00 AM. Inurnment of her cremated remains will take place at Evergreen Cemetery. There will be a lunch to follow at City Limits, Manitowoc.
