Janet A. Zabel

Janet A. Zabel, age 93, a Manitowoc resident, passed away on Monday, October 4, 2021 at St. Mary’s Home of Felician Village, Manitowoc.

She was born June 8, 1928, in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Roland M. & Libbie (Kretche) Hansen. Janet was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School, Class of 1946. On June 10, 1950 she married Robert E. Zabel at First Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on October 13, 2003. Janet was a member of Manitowoc Junior Service League and Redeemer Lutheran Church, Manitowoc.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law: Joan & Michael Walsh; one son and daughter-in-law: John & Nancy Zabel, all of Manitowoc; four grandchildren: Steven (Andrea) Walsh, Eric (Claire) Zabel, Amy (Brad) Fryjoff, Tina (James) Crichton; eleven great grandchildren: Ben & Bryce Walsh, Julia, Courtney & Jeffery Zabel, Bennett, Davis & Leo Fryjoff, Ryan, Ellie & Kate Crichton; one sister-in-law: Beverly Hansen; one niece: Sheri Schouten; and three cousins: Chris Erdman, Will Erdman, and Julie Kubsch. Other relatives and friends also survive. She was also preceded in death by a brother: Leland Hansen; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Howard (Marcella) Zabel; and her cousin: Shirley (Bud) Erdman.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 15, 2021 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Zachary DeArmond. Janet will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.

The family will greet relatives and friends at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Manitowoc, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Friday, October 15, 2021.
