We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Jens Family Funeral Services & Crematory
Janice A. Moen, age 68, of Manitowoc, passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Green Bay after a 5-year battle with a busted head. Before that, though, she had a wonderful life!
Jan was born on April 10, 1953, the second of six kids to Marvin and Shirley Moen. She graduated from Mishicot High School with the class of 1971. Jan had lots of great (and not so great) jobs. She started as a candy striper at Memorial Hospital and went onto be a nurse’s aide at many places including Memorial and Holy Family Hospitals, St. Mary’s and the Convent. Other jobs included Woolworth’s, Walmart in fabric, various eye doctors in Appleton, Sheboygan and Green Bay, and as a sandwich maker at Festival Foods.
And, oh, the trips she took and places she saw! Wyoming and Yellowstone and her happy place - Jenny Lake; California, Lake Tahoe and Ponderosa Ranch, and Chincoteague Island with the wild horses, Wall Drug, Walt Disney World and Universal Harry Potter were her favorites, not to mention the trip to Hawaii. (She overcame her fear of flying for that one) Janice enjoyed the “girl trips” she took – three sisters and mom – to places like the Mall of America, Door County, Wisconsin Dells, and Upper Michigan. Jan loved to read and to watch mysteries, Escape to the Chateau and Downton Abbey. She especially liked cooking shows and had a great cookbook collection. Jan was pretty good at it too, although one batch of Lace Cookies that couldn’t be chiseled off the pan was tossed out the back door into a snowbank - pan and all. Antique malls and flea markets were her passion – which is why her bedroom is so cluttered.
Jan is survived by her mom Shirley Moen, sisters Marie Moen and Liana Mecha, brothers Erik Moen and Evan Moen, and brother-in-law Ed Mecha. She was preceded in death by her wonderful and crazy dad Marvin and her sister Gail Ellis. And of course, waiting for Jan are all the dogs she’s ever loved including Penny Lu, Bindi Lu, LuLu, Snert and cats, especially Yogi Bear, hamsters, parakeets, gerbils, rabbits and turtles – Jan loved them all, especially the dogs.
Per Jan’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. The Jens Family Funeral Home & Crematory of Manitowoc is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed at www.lakeshorefamilyfuneralhomes.com
The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Vincent’s Hospital for their wonderful care these last weeks – especially the nurses on the 9th floor, Unity Hospice for being there every day, and to Jen’s Family Funeral Home for giving so much help at this stressful time.
Split a Coke with Dad, Jan.
Aloha ‘Oe – until we meet again.
