Jerold John Berg

Jerold J. Berg, 80, of the town of Lyndon passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 as a result of injuries sustained in an auto accident. Jerold was born on April 19, 1936 in Sheboygan, a son to the late Clarence and Irene (Ebelt) Berg. He grew up in the Cascade area graduating from Plymouth High School in 1954. He attended the Agricultural short course at UW-Madison. On May 8, 1965 he was united in marriage to Janice Rosenthal and she preceded him in death on September 27, 2012. Following high school Jerold worked for Kaytee Farms in Chilton, was a field tester for DHIA and served in the National Guard. Jerold took over and expanded the family dairy farm. He was an early adopter of new pasturing techniques and to this year continued to graze heifers each summer. Retirement from milking didnt show Jerold to slow down as he was active in organizations supporting nature and sustainable agriculture including Riveredge Nature Center, Wellspring, Grassworks, and the North American Rock Garden Association. Jerold was also active at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Cascade. Jerold is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Robin Berg of Monona; grandson, Bryce Berg of Monona; two sisters, Carol (Leo) Ehrlich of Plymouth and Barbara (Dan) Busalacchi of Mequon; a brother, Eugene (Mildred) Berg of Pensacola, FL and a brother-in-law, Eldon (Julie) Rosenthal of Elkhart Lake. He is further survived by other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a son, David, and a sister-in-law Joyce (Roger) Adams. A funeral service for Jerold will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, November 12 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Cascade with Rev. Richard Bidinger officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Family and friends may gather at the church, 509 Milwaukee St., Cascade, on Saturday from 10 am until time of service at 1 pm. A memorial fund has been established in Jerolds name.
