John Hutchison Obituary

John Martin Hutchison, 78, of Sheboygan Falls passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2023 surrounded by his family at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer.

John was born on March 12, 1944 in Sheboygan to James and Jeanette (Huibregtse) Hutchison. He was a 1962 graduate of Sheboygan South High School. John proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1962-1965, be was stationed in France. He was Specialist 4th Class, a sharp shooter and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. On May 1, 1982, he married Sherry Klahn.  John was a welder and fabricator at Modern Equipment in Port Washington, until his retirement in 2006.

On September 28, 2002 he married Darla Wassink. Over the years, John enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and traveling, especially the cruises that he and Darla took and being snow birds for 11 years in FL together. John was an avid sports fan, he looked forward to watching the Packers, Brewers, Badgers and Golf. John had an appreciation and passion for collecting and restoring antique cars, his street rods, especially his 51’ Merc being his favorite. He won various awards at the car shows over the years. John was an amazing artist, talented cook and baker, and could fix anything.

John was a member of Christian Life Church, where he served as usher and he and Darla served with various activities. He was a kind, gentle soul who lit up the room and had a laugh that was contagious. His quick wit and one liners will be missed by all who knew him. John was a friend to everyone and always put his family and friends before himself. He was a man of strong faith and it radiated through his actions, as he led by example. John cherished the time he spent with family and loved watching his grandchildren’s activities, seeing them happy in their own element and succeeding gave him great joy.   

John is survived by his wife: Darla; children: Sherri (John) Manion, Jerry (Lisa) Hutchison, Cory Hutchison, Sara (Brian) Kurtz, Michael Wilterdink, Eric (Sarah) Wilterdink, Matthew (Senia) Wilterdink, and Lori (Jeremy) Schaub; grandchildren: Dezirae (Frankie), Connor, Kaitlyn, Lydia, Myra, Alyssa, Eloise, Cody, Kyle, Jeremiah, Brooklynn, and Jaycob; and sisters-in-law and brother-in-law: Jeri Hutchison, and Kathy (Scott) Tenpas. John is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  John was preceded in death by his parents: James and Jeanette Hutchison; granddaughter: Ella Hutchison; sisters and brother: Lois (Walt) Graff, Judy (Bruce) Schal, and James Hutchison; parents-in-law: Louis and Helen Wassink; and sister-in-law: Donna (Roger) Dekker.

A memorial service to celebrate John’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 10, 2023 at Christian Life Church, 300 Rustic St. Plymouth. Military honors will immediately follow at the church. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Friday, March 10, 2023 at the church from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Bettag, and the nurses and staff at the Sheboygan Cancer Clinic and Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for all the care and compassion they gave to John and the entire family throughout this journey.

In lieu of flowers memorial to the Sheboygan County Cancer Care Fund or Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice can be given in John’s memory.

The Lakeshore Family Funeral Homes, Wittkopp location, is assisting the family with arrangements.
