Joseph Moore Obituary

Joseph Michael Moore, 81, of Two Rivers passed away on Friday, January 13, 2023 at his residence. Some will remember him as Mike, Joe or Maxie which was always a humorous but common confusion among many people.

Mike was born on April 27, 1941 in Sturgeon Bay to Edward and Iva (Claflin) Moore. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter and Paul Church in Institute, WI. He was a graduate of Sevastopol High School. Mike served his country in the United States Air Force from 1962-1966. After training at Biloxi, MS he married Carol Engelland on July 13th, 1963 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Two Rivers. After 10 days he left for Darmstadt Germany to the Special Security Division. Their first child Kris was born in August and they drove cross country in his pink 88 Super Olds to Mather Air Force base in Sacramento, California. While there he was deployed to Okinawa on temporary duty at the beginning of the Vietnam War, and would be discharged in 1966.

After graduation from Milwaukee Institute of Technology, they moved the family to a large county home in Melnik, WI. Mike started back at Hamiltion’s as an Industrial Engineer. In 1972 he became a Sales Engineer of Time and Temp Sign Company. Being a father of four and on the road was too much so he starting working at Hamilton’s again as Supervisor of Industrial Engineer where he would retire in 2003.

In 1977 the family moved to Maplewood Road in rural Two Rivers where they lived 42 happy years together and created so many wonderful memories with friends and family, and in 2019 they made their final move to the city of Two Rivers. Later in life he began another job/hobby fixing all kinds of antique clocks and was in much demand!

Mike and Carol owned a trailer in Little Sturgeon just a short distance from his famous ancestors first home. He was a direct descendant of Increase Claflin the first white settler in Door County. There he pursued one of his favorite things in life, fishing on his pontoon. Sometimes with friends and family or just Carol but most often alone. Not caring that much if he caught something just enjoying God’s display of beauty and peace.

One of the biggest joys of his life was spending time at the “Ojibwa Hilton” the deer shack up north. He loved that place but even more the “shack gang” who he was always was happy and anxious to see. Their strict mantra was, what happens at the shack, stays at the shack, and this was strictly enforced. While he was there a visit to the casino was high on his list.

He played baseball and softball of some type for 50 years from Little League, to the old guys Big Ball. He was a good player and loved the game. His passion started as a young child when he was elected to the All Star Pony League and had the opportunity to playa ga me at North Western University.

Mike was a quiet and humble man who never “tooted his own horn.” His actions revealed his decency, integrity and faith in the Lord. In his last months he loved to hear about all the updates from his grandkids and where they were and what they were doing in their lives.

The family would like to thank the wonderful care he received at Bellin Cancer Center in Green Bay, Dr Yetter and the Vince Lombardi Clinic, and a special thanks to all the “Transfusion Team” at the hospital in Two Rivers, they went above and beyond for their care for him. Also to Dr Giriyappa for his many years of care.

Mike is survived by his wife: Carol; four daughters: Kristin Remiker, Molly (Jim) Peterson, Mindy (John) Gardner, and Camila Moore; grandchildren: Devin (his wife Emma), Baily, Maggie, Alex, Grace, Carmen, Maddy, and Faith; sister: Karen (Chuck ) Townsend; two brothers: Kenny (Jane) Moore, and Tim Moore; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Janet (Wayne) Hansen, Roy (Holly) Engelland, and Mary Lou (Greg) Behnke. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
