Marcella (Sally) White, age 94, ended this life’s journey on November 7, 2023, and left to join her parents and siblings with the Lord.
Sally was born September 19,1929, in Oconto, to the late Ernest and Ellen (Dagen) Bourassa. She was a graduate of Oconto High School with the class of 1947. After high school, Sally moved to Manitowoc. She worked for the accounting firm of Vining Ihlenfeld, where she learned her meticulous organization and record-keeping skills. (Mom dated EVERYTHING!) On July 10, 1954, she married Richard Frank White at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc. She then stayed home to devote her life to raising their five children. They later divorced.
Being the loving, caring person she was, Sally devoted many volunteer hours to various organizations, such as North End Drug Hospice, St. Vincent de Paul Store, and St. Mary’s Nursing Home, to name a few. Mom was open-minded and always accepting of others.
Sally was very talented in her weaving, knitting, and crocheting. She was always interested in learning something new (learning to swim, yoga, tai chi, learning to use a computer in her 70s). She was a wonderful cook! Holidays and birthdays were always special occasions. Many traditional recipes have been passed down to her children and grandchildren.
Sally is survived by her five children: Mary Petersen, Deborah Steckert, and Sharon White, all of Manitowoc; Jean (Brian) White Grover, Milwaukee, and James White, Spring, Texas; two granddaughters: Sarah (Robert) Belair, Cleveland, and Rebecca (Axel) LeRoy, Sheboygan; and two great-grandchildren: Brooklyn and Samuel Belair.
She is also survived by one sister and brother-in-law: Jane (Gary) Belongia of Oconto. She was preceded in death by her parents: Ernie and Ellen, brothers: Eugene Bourassa and John (Fran) Bourassa and sisters: Dolores Bourassa, Kathryn (Harry) Froelich, LaVonne (Joseph) Brazeau, Mary (Edward) Slempkes, and one son-in-law: Marv Steckert.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 13, 2023, at St. Francis of Assisi Waldo site, 1121 N. 14th. The Reverend Matt Colle will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m.
