Margaret Greicar Obituary

Margaret C. Greicar, age 91 of Manitowoc, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Germantown, WI.

Margaret was born on May 19, 1931 in Grand Rapids MI, daughter of the late Chester and Mary (Beneteau) Marshall. Her father, Chester was the lighthouse keeper on Beaver Island and in 1937 when Margaret was 6, moved the family to Manitowoc where he also became the lighthouse keeper. She lived in the lighthouse keeper's quarters across the street from the lighthouse overlooking Lake Michigan. Margaret loved Lake Michigan referring to it as “her lake” and in her later years enjoyed a short stroll by the lighthouse, a picnic lunch/dinner at a picnic table looking at the lighthouse or even just a drive by the lake on her way home from anywhere in town.

Margaret graduated from Holy Family Hospital School of Nursing in 1952 and worked at the Hospital for 40+ years. Most of her career was in the obstetrics department as a labor and delivery nurse. She loved babies and had the pleasure of bringing a few of her own grandchildren into this world. In April 1953, Margaret married the love of her life, Duane Greicar. Together they raised four sons (Tom, Jim, Dan, John) and one daughter (Mary). Margaret had a love for sewing, quilting and belonged to several quilting groups (Patch of Lakeshore Quilters, Pearl’s Girls, LOLA, and Lakeshore Quiltmakers).

She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law: James M. (Lynn) Greicar, St. Nazianz, Daniel P. (Brook) Greicar, Avon, IN, John C. (Dana) Greicar, Altoona, WI; one daughter and son-in-law: Mary M. (Scott) Stauffacher, Menomonee Falls; ten grandchildren: Thomas (Carmen) Greicar, Christopher (Angie) Greicar, Mallory Greicar, Jessica Greicar, Grant, Noah, and Blaike Berry, Ethan Greicar, Lindsay (Dave) Charlier, Jake Stauffacher, six great-grandchildren: James, Sean, Logan, Cyrena, Braiden and Zoey, other cousins, relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Duane Greicar; one sister: Mary Ellen Schliesleder; and one son: Thomas J. Greicar.
