Margaret "Marge" Kumbalek Obituary

Margaret Ann Kumbalek, age 91, passed peacefully on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at Felician Village in Manitowoc. Marge was born on January 22, 1934 in Two Rivers, daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Scheuerell) Simono. She grew up in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, a 1952 graduate of Washington High School. On November 7, 1953 Marge married the love of her life, Donald J. Kumbalek at St. Luke Catholic Church in Two Rivers.

Marge was known most for her fierce love of family. She was unconditionally loving and supportive, offering an open door and open arms at all times. Her greatest joy was to gather her children and their extended families. Together Marge and Don created family holidays and traditions that will be dearly held in hearts and memories.

Marge worked for over 40 years as a labor and delivery nurse's aid at Two Rivers Community Hospital, then Aurora Medical Center. She also volunteered her time administering communion, delivering Meals on Wheels, and was involved in St. Peter the Fisherman parish activities.

Always active and a fan of hot summer days, Marge enjoyed riding her bike, taking a “three bridges” walk through her beloved hometown of Two Rivers, and trips to Neshotah Beach with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marge’s many hobbies included reading, baking, and patiently tending to her raspberries and vegetable garden. She was also the photographer of the family, her camera always at the ready to capture the moment.

A diehard Cubs fan since the age of 8, Marge had the distinct joy of “living to see the day” her Cubbies prevailed in the 2016 World Series. She proudly shared her impressive collection of Cubs memorabilia with friends and family.

Marge and Don loved to play card games, spend time with their many friends, travel, and during their retirement years, enjoyed snowbird seasons in Nevada and California.

Marge will be remembered most for her selfless giving nature, warmth, and joyful smile. Her life and legacy will live on in all who loved her.

Marge will be greatly missed by her sister Doris (Simono) Schwarzenbart, Two Rivers, her five children: Joan (James) Thiel, Sheboygan, Thomas (Bertha) Kumbalek, Two Rivers, Debra (Nick) Benz, Brookfield, David (Evelin) Kumbalek, Two Rivers, and Julie Wavrunek (Dennis Beining), Greenleaf; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents: Anna (Scheurell) Simono and Frank Simono; one great grandson; two brothers; and three sisters.

A memorial mass will be held to celebrate Marge’s life on Monday, October 27, 2025 at 11:00 am at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church 3201 Mishicot Road, with Rev. Dave Pleier officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Monday, October 27, 2025 at the church from 9:30 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. Inurnment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Two Rivers.
