Marie Kohlbeck Obituary

Marie B. Kohlbeck, age 88, of rural Whitelaw, died peacefully on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

The former Marie B. Strouf was born on March 3, 1933 in the township of Gibson, daughter of the late Otto and Mary (Novachek) Strouf. She grew up in the town of Gibson and attended local schools. On April 26, 1950 Marie was married to Herbert L. Kohlbeck at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mishicot. He preceded her in death on January 19, 2022.

Marie and her husband Herb owned and operated their own business, Kohlbeck’s Riverview Inn at Reifs Mills for 34 and a half years. Marie also was an assessor for the town of Kossuth, town of Manitowoc Rapids and was a County Board Supervisor. She served as a 4-H leader, also served on the Manitowoc County Expo Board, Wisconsin Nursing Board and the Wisconsin Auctioneering Board for many years. Marie was a former member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Reifs Mills and a current member of St. Anne Catholic Church, Francis Creek. The couple enjoyed spending many winters in Florida. Marie enjoyed baking kolaches and knee-caps, crocheting, helping on her son’s farm and driving her granddaughter Marissa to all of her activities.

Survivors include her one son and daughter-in-law: Richard (Debbie) Kohlbeck, Manitowoc; one granddaughter; Marissa Kohlbeck, rural Whitelaw; two sisters-in-law and brother-in-law: Monica (Bill) Geigel, Manitowoc, Dorothy Kohlbeck, Manitowoc; one brother-in-law: Cyril Kohlbeck, Ashwaubenon, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Otto and Mary Strouf; her husband: Herbert L. Kohlbeck; one brother and sister-in-law: Arnold (Cel) Strouf; two sisters and one brother-in-law: Lucille (Harry) Raisleger, Evelyn Madigan; six brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law: Roger Kohlbeck, Abdon (Gertrude) Kohlbeck, Carole Kohlbeck, Emanuel (Grace) Kohlbeck, George Kohlbeck, Kenneth (Marie) Kohlbeck, Gordon (Verna Mae) Kohlbeck.

Memorial services will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at St. Anne Catholic Church, Francis Creek. The Rev. John Becker and Deacon Mike Valenta will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial of her cremated remains to follow at St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery, Reifs Mills. Relatives and friends may call on Saturday at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of Mass at 11:30 AM.
