Marie F. Schermetzler, age 98, a resident of Manitowoc passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center in Manitowoc.
Marie was born on September 28, 1926, in the town of Cato, daughter of the late John A. and Mary (Strauss) Pritzl. She attended St. Mary’s School, Clarks Mills. On November 27, 1948, she married Bernard J. Schermetzler at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Bernard preceded her in death on May 10, 2007. Marie was an active member of Holy Innocents Catholic Church, in her adult life. Also, she was a homemaker, babysitter for many kids, and worked part-time for many years at Hartman’s Greenhouse.
Survivors include her four children: Mari-Carole Shooks, Colchester, CT, Robert (Ellen) Schermetzler, New Holstein, Kay (Daniel) Marsicek, Whitelaw, Michael (Linda) Schermetzler, Whitelaw; eleven grandchildren: Amy (Josh) Bartlett, Adam (Carly) Shooks, Dominic (Amanda) Shooks, Justin (Cari) Schermetzler, Corbett (Sirena) Schermetzler, Morgan Schermetzler, Nicole (Patrick) Fenlon, Jordan (Sandra) Marsicek, Carrie (Bertrand) Tirel, Kristin (Curt) Leister, Jacob (Kellie) Schermetzler; eighteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one great-great-grandchild on the way; brothers and sisters: Paul Pritzl, Edward (Anne) Pritzl, Donald (Joyce) Pritzl, Anna Mae Cornils, Dave Brouchoud, Eunice Beilke, Monica Herzog, Kathryn (Ronald) Krupski, Suzanne Zimmerman; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter: Jane Marie Schermetzler; brothers and sisters: Othmar (Laura) Pritzl, Agatha (Ed) Leist, Irene (Joe) Oswald, Norbert (Rita) Pritzl, John M. Pritzl, LeRoy Beilke, Geraldine Brouchoud, Roger Cornils, Robert Herzog, Violet Pritzl, Howard Zimmerman; mother-in-law: Mary Schermetzler; and in-laws: Helen (Jack) Schultz, Irma (Victor) Huber, Adeline (Fritz) Leick, Jake (Marcella) Schermetzler, Norbert (Anna) Schermetzler, Leonard (Rose) Schermetzler, Marie (Norman) Mayer, Donald (Jeanette) Schermetzler, Irene ( Ed) Staudinger.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at St. Francis of Assis Parish on Waldo, 1121 N. 14th St., Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be the Rev. Jason Blahnik with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc. The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, May 2, 2025 at Pfeffer Funeral Home, 928 S. 14th St., Manitowoc from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The visitation will continue Saturday morning at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m.
