Marion C. Hartman, age 88, longtime Newton resident, died Wednesday evening, May 14, 2025, at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc.
Marion was born on October 15, 1936, in Manitowoc, a daughter of the late Emmet and Armella (Herr) Sullivan. She graduated from St. Isidore Grade School, Osman, in 1950. She was a Class of 1954 graduate of Kiel High School, and a 1956 graduate of Manitowoc County Teachers College. On June 7, 1958, she married Leo Hartman at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Osman, he preceded her in death on April 16, 2010. Marion taught at Point River School in Centerville and farmed with her husband, Leo, until 2000. She also worked for the Kiel School District as an aide, secretary, and cook. Marion enjoyed making big meals and feeding anyone who came to the house. She also liked playing games (especially sheepshead) and spending time with family. She was known for her famous homemade baked buns/rolls, as well as her tied quilts which she made for her children and grandchildren. Marion was a member of the Christian Women of St. Thomas the Apostle and Catholic Knights – Osman Branch.
Survivors include her seven children: Leon (Diane) Hartman of Newton, Allen (Sheri) Hartman of Newton, Ronald Hartman (special friend, Rhonda) of Sheboygan, John (Sharon) Hartman of Kiel, Paul (Wendy) Hartman of Greenville, Andrew Hartman of Green Bay and Bonnie (Timothy) Bruckner of Fond du Lac; 17 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a sister: Margaret (James) Casper and a brother-in-law: Norbert (Betty) Hartman; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a sister: MarJean (Dennis) Christus.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 8100 Brunner Rd., Newton. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. David Beaudry with entombment in Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum, Hwy. 310, Manitowoc, at a later date.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Saturday morning, from 8:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. There will be no Friday evening visitation.
