Mary Ann Ignera, age 95 of Manitowoc, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2026 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center.
She was born on March 22, 1931 in the Town of Kossuth, daughter of the late Joseph and Clara (Burg) Gruber. She attended schools in Rockwood and Francis Creek and graduated with the class of 1949 from Lincoln High School. On June 9, 1951, Mary Ann married Kenneth Ignera at St. Bonafice Catholic Church. He preceded her in death July 3, 2012. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish and enjoyed cats, traveling, decorating, working in the yard, and getting together with friends and family. Mary Ann worked in the office at Mirro Company and JCPenney. She also worked in medical records at the Manitowoc Clinic for 18 years and Orthopedic Associates for 15 years until her retirement.
Mary Ann was survived by two sons: Robert Ignera, Manitowoc, Michael (Laura) Ignera, Manitowoc; two granddaughters: Lisa (Jim) Meissner, Brillion, Bobbi Jo Cisneros, Manitowoc; two great-granddaughters: Brittany Herman, Sabrina (Logan) Verhagen; three great-great-granddaughters: Rylee Herman, Alexus Herman, Evelyn Verhagen; one son-in-law: Robert (Sharon) Dewey; other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Joseph and Clara Gruber; her husband: Kenneth Ignera; daughter: Kathleen Dewey; one son and daughter-in-law: Steve (Lori) Ignera; two sisters: Helen (George) Surfus, Doris (Tom) Lyons.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1121 North 14th St., Manitowoc. Rev. Doug LeCaptain will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
