Orabelle Fisher Obituary

Orabelle Fisher, age 102 passed away peacefully on December 6 at Field of Dreams, Kiel. She was born to Edwin and Alvina Klessig, Route 1, Cleveland, Wisconsin on March 1, 1918. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Fisher, Valders on June 17, 1939. Preceding her in death were her husband Lawrence, son Fred, brother Edward Klessig, sister Doris Wright, sister Judy Dahmer, sister-in-law, Margaret Klessig, Doris Fisher, and brothers-in-law, David Wright, Floyd Dahmer, Dick Oehlberg, and Burdette Fisher. She is survived by daughter-in-law Ilona Fisher, Valders, son Jerry (Debbie) Fisher, Appleton, and daughter Kay Klungseth (T. J.), Windermere, FL. Also surviving her are grandchildren, Julie Rader (John), Wauwatosa, Dan Fisher (Tracy), Valders, Erika (Paul) Chute, San Antonio, TX, Andrew Fisher, Reedsville, Brian Fisher (Vicki), Germantown, Robin Fisher, Minneapolis, MN., Sarah (Greg) Lodl, Whitefish Bay, Peter Fisher, Milwaukee, Jeff (Dawn) Klungseth Clermont, FL., Amy (Sam) Rice, Orlando, FL., twenty-three great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. Orabelle is also survived by a sister, Barbara Oehlberg, Solon, OH, and many nieces and nephews. Throughout her life, she was an advocate of community improvement. Her involvement and awards were extensive and following are highlights: Outstanding State Young Farmer (along with husband Lawrence), National Homemakers Regional Director & Vice President, President of State & County Extension Homemakers, Chair County Traffic Safety Commission, Co-Founder Wisconsin Women for Agriculture & Woman of the Decade Award, Manitowoc County 4-H Leaders Council & Treasurer, local leader of the Liberty Go-Getters 4-H Club, State 4-H Leaders Board, Cooperative Extension Service Award, Manitowoc County Republican Party Secretary, candidate for the State Second Assembly District, served and led numerous boards and committees at Trinity Lutheran Church, Town of Liberty, Aurora Health Care Award, active member of Valders Senior Citizens. Orabelle's response to an interview question in a 1957 Farm Journal story summarizes how she lived her life, "It's thinking of the other person until you forget yourself." Her achievements were many, but who she was in life is what will be remembered most-her genuine interest, care, and love of others. Above all, her lifelong Christian faith and steadfast love of the Lord was the constant guide in her life. "Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path."
