Patricia "Pat" A. (Joyce) Stangel

Patricia “Pat” Stangel, age 92, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at Holy Family Hospital in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

Patsy was born on August 5, 1933, to the late Paul and Florence (Murphy) Joyce.  She graduated from St. Joseph High School in St Paul, Minnesota and furthered her education at the College of St. Catherine, where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree.  On March 2, 1957,  she married Charles Stangel of Manitowoc, Wisconsin. They were married over 57 years and enjoyed travel, tennis, and swimming together.  He preceded her in death on February 8, 2015.

Pat worked as a coordinator of senior programs for the Aging Resource Center in Wisconsin for 20 years. She also worked as a substitute teacher for the Manitowoc school system. She was an active member of Holy Innocents Catholic Church.  She and Chuck were founding members and active in the YMCA where she played a mean tennis game until age 85.

Pat is survived by her four children Sara Smiley (Lanny Bailey), Charles (Judy) Stangel, Mary-Pat (Steve) Mabeus, John (Nancy} Stangel; 10 grandchildren Erin, Kelsey and Matthew, Jared, Jordan, and Leah, Lizzie and Mike, Alison and Emily.  She is further survived by 11 great-grandchildren, Jackson, Ilijah, Corbin, Ella, Finn, Isla, Calvin, Henry, Scott, Margo and Charlotte.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, Paul and Florence Joyce, her brother Paul Joyce, and brothers in law Lance Moberg and Ron Smith. 

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 6th 2026 at St Francis of Assisi Parish, (St Andrew’s Catholic Church, 1416 Grand Ave) Manitowoc, Wi. 54220.  A brief visitation at 10 AM will be followed by the funeral mass at 11:00AM.  A luncheon will follow in the church hall.
