Paul Treick Obituary

On March 7, 2025, it pleased Almighty God in His all-wise providence to take Paul Henry Treick, at the age of 80 years, to his heavenly home to forever be with the Lord and all who love Him. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.”

Paul Henry Treick, the third son of Edward and Erna Rodewald Treick, was born on May 2, 1944, in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. He was baptized and confirmed by Rev. K. J. Stuebbe in Salem Ebenezer Reformed Church of rural Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

Paul graduated from White Trail Elementary School in Newton, Wisconsin, and in 1962, from Lincoln High School in Manitowoc. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 1967. In 1970, he graduated from Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with a Master of Divinity degree and was ordained to the Christian ministry in the Reformed Church in the United States that same year.

In 1967, he married Karen Ruth Batts, daughter of John and Ruth Batts, in Detroit, Michigan. Together they had four daughters: Deborah Ruth, Beth Anne, Paula Kay and Sara Joy.

Paul served three congregations in his ministry: Salem Reformed Church of Ashley, North Dakota for three years; Peace Reformed Church of Napoleon, Ohio for twelve years; finally, Trinity Reformed Church of Modesto, California, for twenty-five years, retiring in 2010.

In addition to his work in the ministry, he served as a volunteer EMT for nine years while in Napoleon, Ohio. His favorite hobby was woodworking, providentially building all three pulpits in the churches that he served.

As part of his ministerial labors, he served as the Stated Clerk of the Western Classis and of the Synod of the Reformed Church of the United States. For twelve years, he served as the editor of the Reformed Herald. He wrote several hymns and a number of publications for instructional classes in the church, completing a large New Testament study in July of last year. On three occasions, in the 1980s and 1990s, he traveled to what was then Zaire in Africa for the United Reformed Churches in the Congo.

He is survived by his wife, Karen, of Modesto, CA, and four daughters and sons-in-law: Deborah (husband, Paul) Rodrigues of Antioch, CA; Beth (husband, Gregory) Boon of Mount Vernon, WA; Paula (husband, Will) DeBoard of Modesto, CA; Sara (husband, Marlin) Viss of Santa Rosa, CA. Grandchildren are Andrew Cefre; Ethan (wife, Nicolette) Cefre; Kylie (husband, Tim) Evans; Kera Boon; and Sabine, Henry and John Viss. His great-grandchildren are Skylar and Ezra Cefre, and Olivia and Asher Evans.

A memorial service will be held at Salem Ebenezer Reformed Church, located at 2524 Hwy C in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 1:00 PM.

Well done, good and faithful servant.
