Phyllis Ann Orth, age 85 of Manitowoc passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at 11:11 p.m. at Froedtert Holy Family Memorial Medical Center.
Phyllis was born on May 22, 1939 in Sheboygan, daughter of Ewald and Elizabeth (Faller) Tresp. She graduated with the class of 1957 from North High School. Phyllis went on to obtain her Bachelors of Education degree from Lakeland College. On February 12, 1971 she married David G. Orth. Phyllis taught for 20 years in both the public and private school system, the majority of her teaching career was at Holy Name School in Sheboygan. Phyllis’s ultimate love in her career was coaching the forensics team at Holy Name. She had many students she treasured, the softest spot in her heart was her student Jason Renzelman. He was amongst her greatest joy as she remembered him fondly throughout her life. After retirement, Phyllis took great delight in knitting prayer shawls, was an avid reader and loved poetry, skillfully acquired rings and jewelry that all had special meaning and was the quintessential collector of pillows. Phyllis achieved her bucket list adventure of traveling to Wales with her husband David, daughter Jenna and son-in-law Brian.
Phyllis is survived by her husband of 53 years, David. She is further survived by her daughter Tina (David) Thill, Suring WI, daughter Jenna (Brian) Beck, Melbourne FL, daughter Leah (Wayne) O’Barski, Mountain WI and son Joseph Orth, Santa Maria CA, 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Phyllis was greeted in heaven and preceded in death by her parents Ewald and Elizabeth Tresp, son Anthony Orth, daughter Tanja Fehrenbach, granddaughter Katherine O’Barski, great-granddaughter Hannah Gallimore and great-grandson Aaron Gallimore.
The family will welcome all those gathering to remember Phyllis from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2024 at St Francis of Assisi Church Waldo Site (1121 North 14th Street), Manitowoc. The Rev. Jason Blahnik will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial at 3:00 p.m. followed by dinner at 4:30 p.m. at the All Care Center (925 South 14th Street), Manitowoc.
