Richard Christianson Obituary

Richard Leroy Christianson, 84, of St. Nazianz, died on Friday, June 5, 2026.

Richard was born on Feb. 21, 1942, to Walter and Myrtle Christianson. He graduated from Valders High School in 1960 and worked for the Tisch Mills Telephone Co. until he transferred to the Valders Telephone Co. a few years later, where he spent his entire career until his retirement.

In 1973, he married Patricia Schisel, and together they raised a son and three daughters.

Richard joined the Valders Lions Club in his early 20s and was an active member in the club for almost 60 years. During that time, he served as club president, zone chairman, and most notably, district governor.

Richard was a proud captain of the Valders Viking Ship for over 40 years, showcasing it in many parades in Wisconsin and even throughout the United States. He took great pride in showing off this parade float that represented the Valders Lions Club and the Valders community.

After his retirement from the telephone company, he spent many years working with the food service company at Lambeau Field and always had stories about Lambeau to share with his friends.

Richard was a handyman of all sorts and loved to help friends and local businesses with projects that needed to be done. Richard was an avid Packers and Brewers fan and loved to watch the games at the bar with friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Myrtle; his sisters, Elmira and Geraldine; and his brother, Verlin.

He is survived by his sister, Lenore Olsen of De Pere; and his brothers, Ralph Christianson of Elkhart Lake and Ronald (Mary) Christianson of Valders; his children, Steve, Tanya, Jill (Tom) Pope and Kim (Dawud) Tan; his stepsons, John Marc and Jomarie; and by his grandchildren, Brandy (Ethan) Smith, Hannah (Roger) Hartsell, Ariana (Josh) Melendez, Sydney (Zack) Gallipeau, T.J. and Julian Pope and Nakula and Luna Tan; and his beloved dog, Lucky.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Meat’s Opera Haus on Friday, June 19, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., where friends and family can enjoy a complimentary screwdriver in Richard’s honor.
