Richard (Dick) H. Walter passed away late on the evening of May 25, 2022 in Las Vegas,Nevada at the age of 96.
Dick was born to the late Earl and Martha Walter in Manitowoc on March 23, 1926. He graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School in 1944 and entered US Navy officer training the same year. He received a B.S. in Mathematics from Carroll College in 1948 and his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1951, where he met and married June Chadwick in September, 1951. He began his 50+ year career in engineering in California, where their sons Richard and Gregory were born. In 1958 they moved back to Wisconsin, where they maintained a home on Pigeon Lake for over 50 years. Though very committed to his career, family was everything to Dick and he never missed a school event that his kids were involved in. He also remained close to his parents and cared for them until their passing. When family obligations were no longer pressing, Dick and June loved to travel and enjoyed many trips to exotic destinations around the globe. On one trip to the Holyland they were both baptized in the River Jordan by the late Reverend Reggie White, the Green Bay Packers legend. He was a big sports fan and an avid golfer. Both he and June loved to play bridge, a game Dick enjoyed and excelled at the rest of his life. Dick and June were married for 52 years until her passing in 2004.
He is survived by his sons, Rick and Greg; grandchildren Whitney Engelhardt, Kaitlyn Mazza, and Jason Walter; and great-grandchildren Avalon and Maverick Engelhardt.
Viewing will be at the Jens Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Manitowoc at 2:00 pm June 12, with a memorial service to be held at 3:00.
