Rita Wyrobeck Obituary

Rita B. Wyrobeck, age 90, passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, June 19, 2022.  She was born on June 27, 1931 to the late Erich and Martha Korting in Haynau Germany.  Rita’s childhood was one of many challenges growing up in Germany during WWII.  The majority of her family fled the Russians to settle in Erlangen Germany in Bavaria as the German Army retreated which was the American controlled part of Germany.  Her family had to start over with nothing and lived in a one room apartment until they could get their lives back on track.  They did not complain about their situation because they were just happy to be alive.

When Rita was old enough, she started working for the Americans in the Erlangen Army Px where she met her husband to be Roger who was stationed in Erlangen with the US Army.  They were married June 24, 1951.

She moved to Manitowoc in 1958 with Roger and remained a resident of Manitowoc until her passing.  Rita was a very social and well-liked individual who truly made an impact on everyone she met.  She had several part-time jobs while raising two children to include selling Avon, clerk at Ken’s Bakery, and sales associate at Roorbach Greenhouse as well as doing volunteer work at some of the local institutions once her children were grown.

Her house was a stop for everyone bumming around in the late 50’s and 60’s to have coffee and usually a good German cake or torte that she had just baked.  She loved company, laughing, and just being around people in general.  She had pretty much had a lasting friendship with everybody she encountered.  She was also a fantastic cook.  Her Schnitzel, Pork and Beef roasts, dumplings, and gravy were second to none.  Anybody that had the pleasure to eat her German cooking would agree.  Rita’s passing will be a big loss for anybody that knew her.  Lastly, she enjoyed a good cocktail or glass of wine with good company.  The minute you came to her house she would ask if you would like a Snort (drink).

She is survived by her son: Tim (Marsha), Grandchildren: Jennifer Koutnik, Brook Vang, Katrina (Brian) Giuliani, and Andrew Colton, Greatgrandchildren: Cassidy, Carter, Mason, and Cameron Vang, London Koutnik, sister: Karla Bergenthal, and brother: Uwe Korting.  Rita was proceeded in death by her husband Roger, daughter Denise, parents, a brother, 2 sisters and numerous other relatives.

Our family would like to thank her good friend Traute for helping her with shopping, taking her to doctor appointments, and just being there for her when she needed help with something.  We would also like to extend our thanks to all of her other good friends that were there for her.  She would never have been able to stay in her home if it wasn’t for all the help from Traute and others friends of hers.
