Robert “Bob” Vits Obituary

Robert “Bob” Edward Vits, 98, of Ledgeview passed away peacefully with his family by his side, Sunday April 6, 2025 at the Meng Hospice Residence.

Bob, the adopted son of Hugo L. and Vivian (Madson) Vits, was born December 24, 1926.  He graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School in 1945 and served in the Army Air Force from 1945 – 1946 in Goose Bay, Labrador.  Bob worked his entire career at the Mirro Aluminum Company starting as a young man and retiring in management.  In 1954 he married Mary Rose (Murdy) Swanson and together they raised two daughters and numerous hunting dogs.  In retirement Bob and Murdy moved from Manitowoc to Door County where family and friends gathered for years.  A final move to the Green Bay area brought them closer to family.  Bob and Murdy were married 61 years when she passed away in 2015.

Bob was a 33° Mason and participated in many Masonic activities throughout his life.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, building model airplanes and boats, but mostly loved golfing with his two grandsons.  Bob was a “get it done” kind of guy who brought a lot of energy to the task at hand be it recreational or otherwise.  He had an energy that touched those around him and it was sustained up until the end.  He will be missed.

A private family graveside service was held on Friday April 11, 2025 at Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc.  Pastor Andy Wendle officiated.
