Sandra “Sandy” E. (Sommers) Monka, age 78 of Two Rivers, died on Sunday, August 29th, 2021 unexpectedly in her home.
Sandy was born on February 26th, 1943 daughter of the late Ben and Dora (Heldt) Sommers. She graduated with the class of 1960 at Two Rivers Washington High School. Sandy met and married the love of her life William “Bill” Monka on January 27th, 1962. They started a family soon after and enjoyed life together. Sandy worked as a nursing assistant, a dental assistant, and then as a private aid/housekeeper. Upon retirement she and Bill had fun traveling, especially their anniversary trip to Hawaii. Sandy will be remembered for the parties hosted with family and friends. No one went without enough food or drink! Sandy enjoyed volunteering at Grace Congregational church, monthly gatherings with the Red Hats Group, and getting together with her Card Club.
Sandy is survived by two loving children daughter Christine (Timothy) Miller and son Gregory (Kathy) Monka, five grandchildren: Cole (Morgan) Monka, Sean Miller, Dakota Monka, Alec Miller, Allison Monka, and one great granddaughter Tegan Monka. She is also survived by her brother James (Ann) Sommers, Keven (Lisa) Sommers, sister-in-law Mary Krey, brother-in-law Michael (Bonnie) Monka, sister-in-law DeeAnn Monka, as well as many nephews, nieces, other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of almost 60 years William “Bill” Monka, parents, baby brother Billie, parent in-laws Albert & Lillian (Weber) Monka, son Douglas Monka, brother-in-law Robert Monka, sister-in-law Susie Hess, brother-in-law Dick Krey, and nephew Peter Krey
Cremation has taken place at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc and a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Grace Congregational United Church of Christ, Two Rivers. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Colie Bettivia.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m.
The Klein & Stangel Funeral Home, Two Rivers is assisting the Monka family with funeral arrangements.
Special thanks to family, neighbors, and friends, stopping in often to check in on Sandy especially after Bill moved into the facility. Thanks to the Grace Congregational family, Pastor Colie Bettivia and retired Pastor Kim Henning.
