Dr. Sean Benham passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at his home, with family at his side.
Sean Thomas Benham was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on August 25, 1955, to Frank and Mary Irene Benham, later moving to Wauwatosa, Wisconsin and then Palatine, Illinois. Sean graduated from St. Viator High School, Marquette University, and St. George’s University School of Medicine. He completed his General Surgery residency at Providence Hospital, Southfield, Michigan. Dr. Benham and his family then moved to Manitowoc, Wisconsin, where he joined the Manitowoc Clinic as a General Surgeon. He went on to start his own practice in Two Rivers and Manitowoc, Benham Surgical Health Care, until his retirement in 2015.
Sean is survived by his wife of 38 years, Marybeth (Strzalka), and their children, Meghan Kinney (William Hull), Brendan and Conor (Jolene Meissner). He is also survived by his sisters, Maureen Johnson and Patricia Wallenberg, his mother-in-law Alice Strzalka, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and their children.
Dr. Benham enjoyed his surgical practice and cared deeply for his patients. He was a loving husband and father. He was a good friend to many. He will be sorely missed.
A private memorial will be held at a later date.
