Sister Karen Krahenbuhl, age 83, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc. The former Karen Krahenbuhl, also known as Sister Donata Krahenbuhl, was born on February 9, 1937 in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Donald and Annabel (Oettinger) Krahenbuhl. She entered the convent in 1952 and professed her vows in 1956. Sister Karen earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Holy Family College, Manitowoc, and a Master Degree in Education from Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Sister Karen served as an elementary teacher at St. John, Plymouth; St. Joseph, Sturgeon Bay; St. Mary, Algoma; St. Anthony, Oconto Falls and St. Anthony, Neopit, Wisconsin where she also served as principal. Sister Karen worked in Village Ministry at San José, Pisinemo, and as secretary at St. Catherine, Topawa, both in Arizona. She also ministered in the Business Office at Holy Family Convent and performed various tasks at St. Francis Convent, Manitowoc. Since November 2002, she had been a resident of St. Rita Health Center, Manitowoc. Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; and one sister: Jeanne Harkins. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Donald and Annabel (Oettinger) Krahenbuhl; and one brother-in-law: William Harkins. A Memorial Mass for Sister Karen will take place on a later date at Holy Family Convent.
