Sister Maureen Bomaster Obituary

Sister Maureen Bomaster, age 82 a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, passed away on January 31, 2024, at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc.

The former Maureen Bomaster, also known as Sister Mary Adell Bomaster, was born on September 17, 1941, in Stambaugh, MI, daughter of the late Thomas James and La Verne Adell (Begres) Bomaster. She entered the convent in 1959 and professed her vows in 1961. Sister Maureen earned a Bachelor of Science Degree at Holy Family College.

Sister Maureen ministered as a primary teacher at St. Philip, Green Bay; St. Joseph, Sturgeon Bay, Rhinelander Catholic Central, Rhinelander; St. John, Seymour; St. Francis, Hollandtown; and St. Mary, Kaukauna, all in Wisconsin, and Holy Angels, Chicago, Illinois. For many years she tutored and helped with outreach programs at Holy Angels, Chicago, and later tutored and volunteered in the Religious Ed Program at St. Peter the Fisherman, Two Rivers, Wisconsin. Sister Maureen helped with Sacramental Preparation at St. Francis of Assisi while living at Roncalli, Manitowoc. Since 2016 she had been a resident of St. Rita Health Center, Manitowoc.

Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, brother: Don Bomaster, sisters: Diane Sablich and Adell “Dollie” Kasten. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Thomas and LaVerne (Begres) Bomaster, brothers-in-law: Raymond Sablich and Bruce Kasten, and sister-in-law: Jackie Bomaster.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, February 5, 2024, at the Holy Family Convent Chapel, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass will be the Rev. Placid Stroik, OFM, with burial to follow at the Holy Family Convent Cemetery.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at the Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm at the Holy Family Convent Chapel. Visitation will continue Monday morning from 8:00 am until 10:00 am.
